looking to buy a tandem

I am going to be buying a tandem in the next month. Only know that I want to get a road tandem. Anyone have any good spots to look or does anyone know what is a good one to start with. I am looking to spend about 1k . . just kind of lost where to look. If someone has one to sell maybe that would be a good place to start.

Thanks for your help,

Sam

It would help if your profile said where you're located.

Start with by reading the stuff on the Tandem Link's page(s) about this very topic.

Standard advice is to look for something used, and make sure it fits (or can be readily adjusted to fit).

Craigslist might turn something up, if you keep looking and if you cast your search wide enough.

I am going to be buying a tandem in the next month...
We decided to buy a tandem last fall after riding a Burley with another tandem couple. We were watching eBay, Criag's list, etc, but never found the elusive "used first tandem" that would meet our needs. A couple of weeks ago we made the leap directly to a new tandem. You might want to focus on a bike that works for you first, then consider cost, and finally when. Just my 2 cents.

The is an RT3000 on the St. Louis craigslist posted mar29 for 1500. Don't know if it's still available or the size or anything else.

Craigslist is probably the best place to find a used tandem on the cheep. The trade off is that you may have to forget your time frame of a month to get the correct one. With that being said, there is probably no better time to get a great deal on a new tandem from your local dealer. As with most things in life it's money vs. time.

My boss just mentioned to me that he wants to sell his Santana. It is a flat bar 26" wheeled mid 90s bike that would make a great starter tandem for someone. Large frame I think. I'll get the particulars from him if you are interested. It should be comfortable under your budget I would think. PM me for details.

You may want to use www.craigshelper.com. It allows you to search based on distance from your zip code.
That way you cast a wider net
