Gearing for Co-Motion Classic?

Bike gets picked up to be shipped to Oregon tomorrow. I'm think about what cassette to put on.

Does anyone know the grades of the two climbs on the road race?

I'm thinking about using an 11-23. (the alternative being a 12-27). The thought process being if we can't get up the climbs in a 39/23 we're likely off the back anyway. And we have a triple so there's always the granny bailout.

What I want to avoid however is needing to be in a 39/25 or 39/27, and not having it, and being forced to use the granny gear and make more front shifts.

Your logic for the 11/23 makes sense. It is not likely but the promoters may change the course due to whatever. If I were going, I would take a backup cassette. We like the SRAM 11/28 or 11/26. I would want an 11 on the rear to make sure we can keep the power up on the slight downhills, if required. Good luck.
