Great Ride down here on PCH from Long Beach to Dana Point

Hey All,

Kath & I are down here in Long Beach for Thanksgiving with family. We got here on Tuesday evening and we brought our tandem. So, we headed out of our hotel (The Westin, Long Beach) around 9ish with the desire to do 40 down the coast which would of course give us 80 for the day. I didn't expect much climbing until we got to Laguna. I've never ridden down here (I do the AIDS ride every year from SF to LA) but never in Orange County. All I can say is...

Wow! Beautiful day of riding. Temps in the mid-70's. Pancake flat until...Laguna Beach , then rollers to the turn around point where we enjoyed the ever present Subway! Man, cilantro! Subways in Northern Cali never have cilantro. Had to be the best 6" turkey sandwich..EVER!

In the beginning we averaged 17.5 until we hit Laguna. Ended up with 14.8 for the day as we had headwinds (not too bad) in the afternoon. All in all, a great day of riding. Of course, our family thinks we're insane. They'll all way overweight as well. OK, we're insane in the membrane, and healthy as hell too!

Thanks for the suggestions on the route. Followed PCH all the way down. Traffic in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach was pretty bad but we navigated it well.

We had a great time! Pics to follow soon

If that's the Subway in Dana Point, been there several times as we usually turn around there.
Wind is almost always north to south, someday we are going to take the Metrolink up to Irvine and ride a tailwind all the way home.
Traffic through Laguna can be brutal. Glad you enjoyed the ride.
