Replacing a barrel adjuster on a Co-Motion
1 Attachment(s)
This may be a dumb question, but...
One of the barrel adjuster on the derailleur cable broke. It's a Co-Motion where the the cablestops are brazed on the sides of the headtube. I'd like to replace it with the same one. Does anyone know the brand? They have no markings. I have added a picture of the barrel If that doesn't work, can I use any barrel adjuster? Do they all have the same thread? Thanks for your help Duppie |
We had one break on our Roadster.
I just ordered a couple from Co-Mo. PK |
What broke? Just the o-ring? I hate those adjusters so I just screwed mine in tight and got some jagwire inline adjusters. SO much better and easier to use. If want to replace them - any standard Shimano adjuster will work.

I was looking at using a Shimano rear mech adjuster, for ours the thread pitch was different I thought. PK |
Typically (on road bikes at least) barrel adjusters are M5 (standard Shimano size) or, less commonly, M6.
If yours are M5, I highly recommend a these swank items: http://www.kirkframeworks.com/accessories.htm They don't come with tension springs though. I have some extra springs that work perfect (taken off a Jagwire barrel adjuster, as I bought a few of 'em just to get the springs)--if you get the Kirk barrel adjusters, just PM me your info and I'll mail the springs to you, gratis. |
I also had one break off. My problem was getting the broken off part out of the braze-on. I drilled it out with a drill of the M5 adjuster's root diameter. I bought ordinary M5 barrel adjusters at my LBS and replaced them both. The new adjuster pushed out the old thread pieces when I screwed it in. I used anti-seize when I put them in. They work perfectly. I thank the Bicycle Mechanics forum for help in figuring out what to do.
