Tandem to rent

I am looking for a Large/Large Tandem to rent that is good enough to race. Rental period 4 or 5 weeks. Located in Atlanta, but will travel a bit for it.

Suggest you contact one or more dealers.

If you're willing to pay enough rent, they can sell it afterward as used or a demo model.

You may want to check with Tandems Limited in Birmingham (about 2.5 hours from Atlanta). They claim to have 50 tandems in stock.

Do you REALLY need a Large/Large? I'm 6'1 and my wife is 5'9" and we're doing well on a Medium Comotion Speedster. I'm just asking since a Large probably greatly narrows your options.

Although I have no idea what type of response you might receive, you might want to join the Georgia Tandem Club's mailing list (aka, PEACHES, an Atlanta-based group) and post your solicitation to the list readers.

The Southern Bicycle League also has an on-line forum that could yield a few readers with tandems that are gathering dust

My question is where around Atlanta are you going to race?

It'll be tough to find a quality tandem to rent.
When we were in the tandem biz, rented a couple times. But after someone brought a tandem back with broken rear der., bent front der. and twisted chain and said ' . . . we don't know how this happened, we just shiffted it ' . . . we said 'no' to renting.
Good luck.

Merlin, The plan is to race Masters Nationals in Kentucky August 3rd, and practice around Atlanta. Tried Tandembikesltd. but no luck. Will now try Peaches...Thanks all.

Not to ask the obvious, but why not just ship/take along your own tandem? For the level of riding you are looking to do, I sure wouldn't want a rental tandem. Sure, it will cost you to ship, but it will probably be the same/less than renting.

Another thought, although it also involves shipping: Mt. Airy bikes in Maryland (Larry Black) rents many of their stock of bikes. See: http://us.zilok.com/alias/bike123com

Mt. Airy is one of the largest tandem dealers in the USA.

Yeah, I mean that is going to add up renting a bike for that trip. I say just buy it and ship it like everyone else
