Rear derailleur chain wrap capacity and front derailleur chainring capacity
I have a couple of questions I know that someone out there can answer. If I choose an 11-29 rear cassette, and a 53-39-28 front chain ring, that gives me a rear range of 18 (29-11) and a front range of 25 (53-28) for a total range of 43. The long cage rear derailleur I am looking at has a chain wrap capacity of 39. As long as I don't go to the smallest chainwheel and never lower than the 15 tooth cog I should be okay. Am I right? Question 2, I am looking for a front 10s triple derailleurs and all of them I am finding say the maximum chainring size they can accept is a 52. Can you actually get away with a 53 front chainring when the manufacturer says 52 tooth max?

I think that you'll be fine as long as you size your chain to safely cover the big/big combination. I can't imagine a situation in which you'd ever accidentally shift into the little/little combination. I've never used my granny ring with any but my biggest 2 or 3 rear cogs.
Likewise, you're only looking at a 2% increase in chainring diameter. I don't think you'll have trouble cheating that much on derailleur specs.

I run a 26-39-53 in front with a Dura Ace triple FD and 11-29 10spd with a Campy Record long cage in the rear. On paper - it isn't supposed to work but in reality it's the best shifting system i've had on the tandem so far. Wraps the Big Big with a bit of room to spare - on the 26-11 the chain is taut but I don't run it in that gear ever.

26-39-52 in front and 11-34 in back, though I've just switched to a 12-34 for much better ratios. Ultegra 9 spd FD, XTR RD. It all works well. I do have to be careful not to shift too far down the cassette before going from the granny to middle ring - or better, shift back to the larger cogs right before grabbing the middle ring. My chain is set so I can run large-large without breaking anything, just in case I forget what ring I'm in.

We have 53/39/26, and put on an 11-28 for rides in the mountains, using a Dura Ace drailleurs, (long cage rear) with no problems.
+1 on the above comments to make sure you size the chain for the Big/Big combination.

28-44-54 in front and 11-34 9-spd in back. Ultegra 9 spd FD, XTR long RD. 114 link chain needed to avoid the big/big lockout (and you really want to avoid that). N-gear jump-stop for the granny, just in case. Will hunt a little on rough bumps, but otherwise perfect shifting.
