Wear indicator Rolf wheels

Just had the rear wheel of our Rolfs rebuilt.

I noticed on the new rim, there's a black hole in the brake surface, which presumably is a wear indicator.

There isn't such a mark in the original front rim.

I'm presuming that means we've worn past it on the front rim and it needs replaced as well.

I'm hoping however, that perhaps Rolf didn't put wear indicators on the rims back in 2008.

Anybody know if the wear indicator has always been on Rolf tandem rims?

Neither my '07 or '08 Rolfs had/have them. I believe it's a recent addition that enables them to meet EU standards. A quick check of the Rolf Tech Manuals seems to suggest they were added after the 2010 Owner's Manual was published, as the comment regarding the wear indicator 'dimples' is a new addition to the 2011 Owner's Manual.

That's good news. Feeling the brake track it has some wear, but it didn't seem like enough for the rim to be shot.

I will sleep better knowing what those holes are for. I was starting to think my wheels had woodworm;-) (Never saw these on any wheels I bought before this year)...
