FWIW:

I do use the brakes. In fact the brakes have such good power that I can apply them quite late going into a corner, and use them pretty hard.

I am using the Avid Clean Sweep G3 203mm rotor, BB7 road caliper and EBC Gold Pads and Yokozuna reaction cable housing.

This setup has been chosen after trying various configurations. Some with not so good results.

I few things worth noting:

The Yokozuna cable housing and using the most direct path to the with least amount of housing possible makes a huge difference!

The Avid G3 is better than the G2 in dissipating heat (fades later).

The Avid G3 has changed designs since the last one I purchased. The center section is more solid (less material cut out). It still has a lot of holes closer to the outside, but the center section is really solid. Seems smart to me, and hopefully will last a little longer before warping.

I am using the Ultegra 6703 levers now. These levers have more cable pull than the pre-09 Campy levers I was using before. This allows the brakes to be open an extra click or two, which leads to less rubbing than before.

As far as improvements in tandem disc brakes??

I am happy with the 203mm diameter. I would like a caliper that has better build tolerances in that they applied more even pad pressure. Usually my pads wear a little off-plane. The vented disc is another cool idea, something more warp-resistant would be nice.

Essentially a "nicer" version of what's already out there would be nice, a new evolution of the BB7.

There is another thread recent that discussed use of the new Shimano ICE XT rotor. We've been using this on our daVinci and really feel an increase in stopping power, but we haven't done any big descents yet. I know one experienced mountain biker who put these rotors on his bike (hydraulic of course) and PR'ed 3 descents the next time out.

These look very interesting, and the aluminum center layer makes sense from a strength, weight and heat dissipation standpoint. Hmmm...if these had been available, I might have tried these before opting for the Formula 220 mm.






Look closely and you can see the aluminum core hiding between the two stainless steel sheets on the new Shimano Deore XT ICE Tech rotor. Shimano will offer the new rotors in both Center Lock and six-bolt fitments

The original thread topic was about an 11 inch rotor. It does not appear to be for sale.

The 9" rotor discussed was the Formula 220 mm. It was discontinued in 2010, but by poking around you can find new old stock available. Here is a review of the rotor from 2008.
