TarWheel Century
Has anyone done the TarWheel Century in NC on a Tandem? We are heading down there this weekend and we were wondering about the terrain.
Since it just snowed here yesterday (Gotta love NY), we haven't had as much ride time to prepare for a century ride, we were hoping it was fairly flat there. |
That is a very flat part of the state. They bill it as the "world's flattest century." While we haven't ridden there, it should be a good ride. It will be warmer than it is in WNY, but not hot. There is no snow! You can also do a shorter ride.

The Delta Century (in the California Delta) has about 200' of ascent. I believe you also have to take a river ferry (or barge or whatever) at some point. Can't do it on our tandem this year, but I'm going to try and sneak over and do it on my single.

Really? Narraganset Bay Wheelmen hold a century called "Flattest Century In the East." We've never done it so I would know...
There are much flatter centuries though, like the Seacoast Centuty in New Hampshire by the Granite State Wheelmen club. I think that one is about 1100 vert feet, almost totally flat. We've riden The Seacoast on the tandem too |
