Death Ride

2 Attachment(s)
Anybody here tandeming it this year? The wife and I will be out there for our first DR, aiming for 5 passes! We've had some good 100 mile, 9-10k feet climbing training rides, but this will be our first time at altitude. This is us here...

Sounds too much like work to me, but I hope you have a great challenge and a good time!

My husband and I are from Menlo Park and will be riding the Death Ride on our red Calfee tandem. Do say hi if you see us!

We did out own "death ride" last Sunday.
Against my better judgement we did a very hilly ride in the back country.
It was only 40 miles but with some very steep climbs and the temperatures got up to 95.
My wife doesn't do well in the heat and I was at my limit going up some of the hills.
Since that ride she has been pissed at me and doesn't want to get back on the bike for now.

As a fellow Shark fan I understand your enjoyment of longexcruciating suffering!

I have done the Death Ride 9 times on my single but have notmustered the courage to consider it on the tandem.
Have we seen you guysout in South San Jose the last couple of weekends? , we would have been on ablack Calfee near Calero.

Good luck on Saturday, and take it easy on the down hills!

I rode the 8 pass Alta Alpina on 6/30 so I got in my Death Ride passes already. We are in Reno for the weekend and just climbed Mt. Rose for the first time on our Cannondale. Very proud of my gf as it's the first time she has climbed at that altitude before.

Well, we completed all five passes in 11:45ish of riding time. The highlights for me were definitely the scenic views and the bomber descents.

Chichi, we are from South SJ, but I don't remember seeing any black Calfees. We"ll keep our eyes out...

Registration for the 2013 Death Ride is tomorrow. At Active.com, at 10 AM PST. It will sell out within a few hours, so one tandem team member needs to the Johnny or Jane on the spot, and get on the Active site.

Tips and Guidlines .pdf includes tandem information.

We plan to give it a go, probably 4 passes. What is neat is that tandems are not an after thought at the Death Ride. Tandems have their own registration procedures, get their own numbers, etc. Even tandem statistics.

If you are registering in the tandem category please have the following info ready: tandem partner's name, date of birth, emergency contact and phone and email address. These questions will be mandatory in order to complete a tandem registration.

Tandem riders must check-in together at the Death RideŽ Office. If you are registered as a tandem you must ride a tandem bike. Tandems will receive one bike number.
