Stoker's Saddle Question
 

Wondering about a Brook's Sprung saddle for my wife in the stoker position? She presently has a ThudBuster post.
She is wanting to consider a new saddle so I thought I would ask here!!

Cathryn has a non-sprung Brooks B17S Aged (slightly pre-softened in the tanning process) atop a Thudbuster long-travel post. She finds it a very satisfactory combination. If you've already got the Thudbuster you may want to continue to use it.

And we are currently trying a Selle SMP ($$$) in the stoker position. Stoker says soft tissue pressure is gone, but we're still dialing in for the new saddle.

After many, many different saddles, my stoker is happy with the Brooks B68 Imperial unsprung saddle with the Thudbuster seat post. Sit bone position is very critical for comfort with the Brooks saddles. The sit bones must rest on the unsupported part of the leather and not on the surrounding metal rails. (Think of it as a leather hammock for the sit bones). My stoker could not comfortably ride on the B17 saddle which is the saddle I use.

we went thru a half dozen saddles before my stoker found a combination she liked. it is a cheap wal-mart saddle with a Bell gel pad - she hated a Terry saddle, she hated the saddles I like, tried some weird ones that she though she'd like - didn't. No correlation between what she liked and price or looks or my liking them.

keep your stoker comfortable, and let her/him try lots of different saddles.

I was looking at the Brooks site and they donot show or list a B68. Though it will come up on a Google search. Is this a discontinued saddle?

maybe they meant the B67? i did two B67S (S = shorter for the ladies) and my wife and daughter love them (we ride a triple). my wife has never liked any other saddle and had big reservations about the brooks mainly because i had a Brooks Swift on my road bike and it was much stiffer than the B17 or B67's. i did a sprung B17 (aka Flyer) and i like it a lot more than my Swift. The springs aren't super soft and bouncy, but they really take out the hard hits. since my wife is kind of short and her seat post has to host a handlbar stem as well a thudbuster was not an option for us.

the great this about Brooks is you have little to lose if she doesn't like it. they have great resell value.

Oh no it can't be. It looks like the B68 has been discontinued. They are still available online if you do a search. I guess it's time to order some extras.

I wonder if the springs (in the brooks) are really necessary if the stoker is not in a relatively upright postion? I am under the impression that springs are best for riders who sit upright hybrid style, and not so good for a road bike sitting position.
