Tulsa tough bike race and tulsa tough gran fondo
We spent the weekend in Tulsa watching bicycle racing and riding the Gran Fondo on Sunday. We had a great time, the racing was incredible and the riding was excellent, a very well done venue.
We picked up our packets on Friday evening and watched some great racing and then on Saturday we watched our daughter race in the Women's Cat III/IV race, she had breast cancer surgery right at 2 months ago. She did amazingly well, finishing in the middle of a large pack, something like 75 riders. We watched racing most of the day and evening.
On Sunday we rode the 35 mile Gran Fondo with our daughter, it was a challenging loop with some decent hills, one hill had a 10.7 percent grade. Here is a link to the route. We did very well except that my stoker had a cramp, too much standing around watching bicycling racing in the sun and not enough rest on Saturday being a major contributor.
On Sunday afternoon we watched the race up cry baby hill. I have never seen anything like it, I was reminded of the crowds that I see on TV during the Tour de France. Up on the hill it was one big party. I took a brief walk up ther to see what it was like. For the most part we sat in the shade and watched the racing.
We only saw 3 other tandems on the ride. Tulsa is a very bicycle friendly city!
