2014 Eastern Tandem OFF ROAD Rally
This year's Eastern Tandem Rally will be held in beautiful Burlington, Vermont from July 17 to 20, 2014. See the website for more information (more info on ETR 2014 will be coming soon).
Keeping with a New England theme, we are planning to have the Eastern Tandem Offroad Rally (ETOR) in the spectacular Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, Maine from September 12 to 14, 2014. We will be staying at the Bar Harbor Motel (https://www.barharbormotel.com/). The room rates will be $119/night plus tax for a king bedded or double queen room. They also have two bedroom family suites (2 bedrooms and one bathroom) for $149/night plus tax. Maine hotel taxes are 8%.
You can access Acadia's carriage trails right from the motel. The carriage trails are all well maintained and beautiful. Nothing technical. As a matter of fact, you can use a road tandem as long as it has tires at least 32mm wide. You don't need a fancy mountain tandem here -- although if you have one, it would work well too.
We anticipate riding Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can also extend your trip so that you can go kayaking, rock climbing or take a whale watching excursion.
Dinner on Friday will be on your own with a meet-up at an ice cream parlor in Bar Harbor. We are planning a private lobster bake for our group on Saturday night with plenty of lobster, but also land-lubber food. Lunches will be on your own. We can give information about nearby delis as the date approaches. We anticipate that the team cost for the ETOR will be in the $125 range ($62.50/person).
We have reserved a block of 15 rooms from September 11th to the 14th. We are wondering if that will be enough rooms.
Please you let us know if you are interested in going to the ETOR next September. There is no commitment here. We just want to make sure that we are saving enough rooms. We expect to open registration around March. In the meantime, if you want to reserve your room, feel free to contact the Bar Harbor Motel and mention the rally. You can cancel up to a few days before the rally with a $20 cancellation fee.
If you are interested in coming, please email caren@carenandmike.com. Let us know if you plan on extending the days beyond Sept 11-14 as we can extend our room block.
