Please advise if this request is in the wrong forum. I'm needing some direction on what my tandem might be worth, wife now has no interest in riding. It is a cannondale 1991, dura ace throughout except cantilever brakes and wheelsmith wheels. Probably only ridden about 200 miles but has sat in a barn for 13/14 years. Had the local bike shop put some new tires, tubes, and some cleaning but IMO needs some time polishing everything up. Geared as a flatlander. I've been trying to keep an eye on ebay to get an idea what might be fair market but haven't seen any come across since I've been looking. Would anyone know of other sites I could check or recommendation on starting place to ebay. Thanks for any assistance or advice on giving this a new home. Please no offers in response to this request.

Ebay's a bidding process. I'd just list it with no reserve and get what you get. (pay less for listing that way too)

I can't stress the importance of presentation when it comes to used bikes. Clean it until it shines if you want to sell it locally. I'm also a big fan of bartering. I've traded bikes for cameras, and the other way around. Just a suggestion, but unless you just want cash (and probably not the small amount you'll get on ebay) I'd see if you can find someone willing to trade for goods or services.

I recently paid $US1600.00 for my 1993 Cannondale Tandem. It was listed with a starting bid of $US500.00 but i used the purchase now option for several reasons. The first was that i really really wanted a decent 2nd hand tandem. I live in Australia and the 2nd hand tandem market is next to non-existant. I had been looking high and low in this country for about 2.5yrs for a 2nd hand tandem. I couldn't find one i started looking on the American ebay site. And also the tandem that was on offer i thought had some excellent upgrades made to it. I was very hesitant at first spending the money but after i made a post on this forum and got the "all clear" that the tandem was indeed good value i felt alot more relieved.

The tandem when it arrived looked to be in impeccable condition. Not a scratch on it and it was very shiny ... there is no way knowing that you would think that it was 10yrs old just by looking at it. You would have to have some indepth knowledge of tandems to know its age.

I guess what i am trying to say is that if you do polish your tandem up and make it look all spic & span there is a good chance you will get a decent price for it. Will you get $US1600.00 for it?? Well who know .. you just don't know who is out there looking. Why don't you just list it with a starting price of say $US500.00 and see how you go.

There ought to be an online registry of tandems in Australia. That would make things easier when it came to buying and selling.
