Edit: Actually, there is at least one name-brand 135mm tandem hub out there: http://www.wheelbuilder.com/dt-swiss...-road-hub.html but it's still the case that 135mm is far from standard on tandems now. |

There does not appear to be any indication of the geometry of the frame or fork. There are various sizes mentioned like "Large", "small" and "medium" but I didn't notice the actual measurements of the top tube, seat tube for the captain or stoker of any listed size. How large is large and how small is the small? It would also be nice to know some of the angles like the seat tube angle which impact the top tube length.
A better deal might be a complete tandem from Santana is available for $3,000 which seems low to me but here is the page. Wheels and other components included. I wonder if Santana is having trouble moving Arriva frames. Arriva |

I don't know the details of that one, just saw it randomly then posted it here.
As far as random goes, you can check out these from a Canadian store: 7 speed Stoneridge $400 CAD Home Hardware - 7 Speed Stongeridge Tandem Bicycle simply described as "Kent" $500 CAD Home Hardware - Tandem Bike |
Wonder if the Ciocc has Italian Bottom bracket threading. ?

There are no better deals on my local CL than used tandems. They pop up fairly regularly and at a very nice discount. There isn't a huge demand for them in the used market.

Interestingly, Ciocc also has a carbon tandem, in 5 sizes. This needs some looking into. The advertised frame weight of 2600 grams (with a lateral tube), compares favorably to my lateral-less L/M Calfee Dragonfly weight (unpainted) of 2930 grams. Also, it appears to have a tapered head tube, which is a nice, modern feature.

Here's an example of a built-up Ciocc carbon tandem. http://forum.julmtb.com/download/fil...acb9&mode=view Here's a FB photo gallery of a Ciocc tandem (I can't tell the frame material). Seems to have good attention to detail. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...17567224_n.jpg Here's a Ciocc being used by a male team. http://cmieuxa2.com/forum/extensions...achmentID=3626 http://cmieuxa2.com/forum/extensions...achmentID=3627 |

If you invest in the right rim & spokes & hub, the difference in strength or durability between a 135mm and a 145mm rear hub is practically insignificant. Remember, up front all bikes, including heavily loaded tandems, still rely on a 100mm wide hub. If your tandem team needs more strength than the latest burly set of 29er hoops you can order a 135mm rear hub with steel axle from the usual component makers. |
