SH!FT - Houston - Terry Hershey BW8 to G. Bush @ S. Fry and back - Sun May 3rd, 2015

Hey everyone!

I am back on the bike after 3 months off, due to a crash on Clay rd. I've been riding around home for about a week and figured since I pay for the Meetup.com service that I may as well schedule another ride! I've listened to past comments so just for this Terry Hershey Ride we will have a 8am rollout. If we get enough participants, this is what I am visualizing. We all leave together from the beltway lot. We stay together as a group for the 8 miles through THP. This is only because it's kind of dangerous to haul butt through the park. I will have a couple of 1st timers with me so it will be at a leisurely pace. Once we cross Hwy 6 then have at it. Go as fast as you safely want but we will have a no drop group in the back. If you feel like waiting for us at S. Fry that's cool, if not, that's cool too. Then we will head back and take another break at Hwy 6 under the healing tree. Then we will cool down as a group back through the park. I would like to see some of you Bike Forums guys out there! Feel free to register and RSVP on https://www.meetup.com/Make-Shift-Hap...nts/221911962/ or just let me know on here. Thanks.

8am rollout at the beltway parking for Terry Hershey Park. The parks can be somewhat challenging due to the wind and total about 36ish miles.

We would like to get enough participation so that we can make this a NO DROP ride for the new riders or people with hybrid bikes so PLEASE RSVP if you are interested, tell us your comfortable ride speed, and we will figure something out.

We will plan on 1 or 2 rest stops depending on how everyone feels, one at a Walgreens and the other at a picnic table at Hwy 6 on the return, but we recommend that you bring plenty of fluids and some kind of snack.

A word of caution... This is a park. There will be walkers, joggers, runners, strollers, other bikes, dogs, squirrels, rabbits and who knows what else. Safety is a big concern. All of Terry Hershey Park will be ridden at a pace that keeps everyone around us safe. Drafting should be avoided until we cross Hwy 6. We will talk more on safety prior to ride start.

Don't worry if you think the 36 miles is too far! This route does not make a loop. If at any point you think that you have gone nearly half way of what you can manage, TURN AROUND! That's the beauty of this place.

*Bring spare tubes, water, snacks, pump or compressed air, sunglasses, helmet, tire irons, or anything else you may think you need!
