Moving to Porter/Kindwood area

I have lived in downtown Houston for a long time and will soon be relocating to the Porter/Kingwood area. (off Ford road near 59).
I am not really familiar with that area. Any of y'all know any good riding around there?
The wife and I both ride road bikes and mostly ride the MUT's on white oak bayou on TC Jester and Allen Pkwy at the moment.

Welcome to the northeast Houston area and Montgomery county.
I live in Kingwood. There are many places to ride here. The Grand Parkway construction has things hemmed in for now but it will end later this year. Check my website Texbiker.net for where I ride, events and news. Today I plan on riding east on FM1485 to Casey Ridge and then through Roman Forest, SH 242 west to FM1314 and then back to New Caney. This is north of the construction area.

It is going to be a couple months before we actually make the move... I just want to get familiar with route options and bike shops in the area.

welcome aboard

I live in the Porter area north of the construction. Most of my routes are mapped in Ride With GPS . . Find The Best Bike Rides, Routes and Cuesheets in Your Area

Bike shops I deal with an eclectic bike shop called Sprockets Bicycles and More off of Ford Road east of the tracks about half a mile . . more main stream is Bike Werks and Bike Barn
For local gravel and mt bike trails Lake Houston Wilderness Park Lake Houston Wilderness Park . . . Better mt. biking at Double Lake (Sam Houston Nat Forest) and Huntsville State Park.
Clubs ? I don't do clubs because I am too slow of a rider

I am a member of the Northwest Cycling Club. I qualify as the furthest eastwards member

Not many cycling events in our area . . Texbiker has organized rides listed

I live in Oakhurst, (59 and Northpark) and can get 20-40 miles by riding just to the college and hospital and back, through the various Oakhurst streets, out into Valley Forge and down 1314 to the Grand Parkway construction zone. Aside from 1314, most of it is pretty low on traffic.
