Will ride MS150 for the first time. Team suggestions?
Howdy?
New cyclist here, ambitious to raise funds and ride MS150. I want to ride with a team not too big where I can make friends and participate in training rides. I can't find much info on the MS website beside the team names and captains. Please share your experiences with me. Which teams are the best for a beginner? What are some perks? Thanks. |
I know it's a big team (2nd biggest, only behind BP), but I couldn't imagine you having anything but a great time on the Saint Arnold team.
Starting in January we have meetings every few weeks at the brewery, and starting this year have set up a fairly good training group through our team Facebook page. They've tested it out with the small group that's doing Bike Around the Bay next week, and according to the team member that put it all together, everything by far exceeded their expectations. They have rides ranging from pace/tempo/get-you-in-shape rides to casual/social rides that are laid back and fun. We also have one of the organizers of Tour de Taco on our team, so you can ride and train with them as well. Below is a link to sign up for the team: https://events.r20.constantcontact.c...a&oseq=&c=&ch= It's $120 to join the team, and that includes: Team jersey Tent in La Grange Tent in Austin Dinner in La Grange Breakfast in La Grange Lunch in Austin Luggage transportation Team t-shirt Meetings at brewery (free beer) Beverages in La Grange & Austin |
Sounds great, thank you. Brewery is really far from me (I am in Katy) but I know that they are a very friendly group of people. I will definitely consider. Thanks again.

I would suggest getting in with a team that is part of the Ready to Roll training series. For a little over $100 (on top of whatever team fee), you get 12-13 weekly fully supported group rides, during which you can meet others who ride your same pace and hopefully find a group to ride together with to Austin. You can only get in on the series if you are on one of the invited teams.

Unless we screwed it up last year, Saint Arnold will be a part of Ready2Roll. We all got the organizer's email a couple days ago so I'm assuming we are at least. |
