Thinking of buying a CX bike

I'm thinking about adding a new bike to the fleet. I'm looking at the Cannondale CAADX. It's not that I am getting burnt out riding on the road but I would like the possibility to change things up when I feel like it. My neighborhood is real small (only a 1 mile straightaway and tons of turns everywhere else) and I only get about 30 minutes of daylight to ride on weekdays. It gets boring in there. I think riding around the creeks and retention ponds would do more for my general fitness.

So for those of you with CX bikes, where do you guys ride other than the levee of GBP and the dirt trails back in there? Is there anywhere you go to get 30-50 miles without seeing a car at all... that would not be trespassing? I'm just curious how fun it is if you stay local before I invest into it.

There's a little bit at memorial park, but i've never done it.
There's a lot of good trails north at Double Lake. Again, haven't been there yet.

Been around. GBP is finally not flooded and clear of debris so I got to ride last weekend.
This place will pick up next month when MS150 rides get starting.

That's true. MS150 brings people out of wherever they are hiding and onto the trails, streets and internet. I personally am looking forward to some nice group rides in the training series. I never actually do the MS150 but the lead-up to it can be fun. I'm not much on staying overnight somewhere without my family. I may post up some threads of training rides and the dates and info just to get people talking about them and maybe we could all meet up pre-ride sometime.

I can't do the MS this year, so I'm not doing the Ready2Roll series (I don't think you can even sign up if you're not registered for the MS). So I'll be doing as many of the t-shirt rides during those weeks and after the MS as I can. I'd be happy to meet up with y'all even ride the day with you if you don't mind me not going balls out 20+mph because I can't. Go ahead and post a schedule or start a convo about it in my 'Houston Area Rides' thread (Which is exactly why i started it).

The bayou systems in the Spring/Cypress area are great bicycling routes on a hybrid, CX, or coverted mtn bike. Lots of possibility in this area. And the trail systems connecting from the old Raveneux golf course....
