Attn: Bike Shop Owners/Managers
I've recently opened a Bike shop in the Lake Jackson area.
Its been lots of fun, but I'm looking to add another mechanic in the next month or so. How do y'all find qualified mechanics? I've searched one the UBI and the BBI websites but theres nothing. How do you guys find good employees?
On another note....What is a fair wage for a trained mechanic. PM or post on this. I don't expect you to divulge specifics in a public forum. But I'd love to hear what is a fair rate.
Thanks
Ben

Congratulations on opening your bike shop. What is the website and/or information and I will add you to the Texbiker.net bike shop listing.

I might try posting the job opportunity on Austin and Houston Craigslist sites as there are many qualified bike mechanics in both areas.
Another thought is to contact Park Tools Bicycle Mechanic Training Program and tell them you are looking for a certified mechanic to employ in the Lake Jackson, Tx area.
Good luck.
I know it may sound a bit pricey, however $18/hour plus for a qualified mechanic and wheel builder would be a good start.
Also,
Cost of Living is reasonable in Lake Jackson area. No need for car to commute to work, for sure.
