Segment 1 Comments

I'm particularly interested in the western end of this trail.

I have looked at Segment 1 and I think they are overlooking a much better opportunity. I will be submitting the following recommendation:To improve the safety and utility of the trail, I recommend the Segment 1 alignment be an extension of the existing trail north to Hammerly. Relative to the route in the DRAFT, this alignment would eliminate five on-street intersections, of which two are mid-block crossings and one has particularly bad sight lines. There are a number of factors that could offset the additional cost of bridging the drainage, including the elimination of the mid-block crossings and route signage, as well as the possible use of the surplus bridge from Terry Hershey at Highway 6.

Recommended off-street alternative for Segment 1.

If you have concerns about this segment you should comment.

On first look, I agree with Flangehead's suggestion. Why is it not that way? Is there some legal barrier?
I grew up in Spring Branch - we used to play in the drainage creek of "segment 3." I am now about 20 miles NNE - I would ride this. I might cycle the 20 miles to get there, and ride a few, then head back.

And, looking at that western part - at Segment 3 - why drop south from the east-west drainage creek to Hammerly? Why not just run west all the way west along the drainage creek to Addicks Dam? Maybe the idea is: by dropping south to Hammerly you tie in to Agnes Moffitt Park, which would be a great place for group rides to start. (Also, that park has a disc golf course, but it is very flat and not a lot of woods.)
