Its gotten to be a problem in years past from what I've heard. Much slower riders, and a lot of them, getting in the way of the tandems and super fast 100mi riders. I don't know what they really plan to do (if anything), but I can certainly see it being a safety issue. Not so much for experienced riders who want to beat the rush and can ride the pace, but the hundred or so others.

Cuda2,
I agree that those who jump the gun (called the dispicable name of "SOONERS" in Oklahoma) are a problem. Pace lines overtake them at high speeds. If the guys in the middle of the pace lines veer even a little out of the line during the first twenty miles or so, they never see the slow riders until it is too late to avoid them. Ugly!
Cuda, I'll borrow my wife's cell and give you a call. We are staying at the Crown and will be much nearer the start than 15th and Austin. My daughter and her boyfriend are ready and we woulld like to ride with you guys at least for a while. It's inevitable that one group of us will be faster or slower than others. Even 1-2 mph difference in comfort level makes a difference after a while. Separating naturally after a while is no problem.
I'll be on a white '69 U08 and probably wearing a red and white Swiss National Champion Phonak jersey. Red with a white cross. (Unfortunately, I stretch it a bit from the inside!)
Anyone hear from Spinbackle? He's a forum member from Wichita Falls who rides with his elementary aged son. Met them last year at the start and then learned later reading this forum, that he was a member here. He posted some cool pics.

Allright, I have to learn about local custom.
Here in Phoenix, a rain shower would be a blessing! Riders would probably get naked and do a dance with the bike. In TX, I don't know whether rain gear is in order. I don't even know what 30% chance means, the local weather is so unpredictable the weatherman hides after his broadcast

Lizard,
When it rains here, it is STILL warm. No rain gear needed. After ten miles, I'm so wet from sweat I can't tell if it's raining or not except by looking through my sweat-filled sunglasses to see the road surface.
As to naked, we are in the Bible Belt. We would look with disdain at such a display, BUT, we'd look!

BTW, first post by me (been reading for a little while). I'll be at the HHH with a couple other guys from work. We'll all probably be in Brinks jerseys (blue with an armored truck). I'm hoping to put in a sub five hour century. Hope to meet some of you guys out there!

Tick-tock, tick-tock! It is almost ride time. Coming in from Austin on Friday to check out the crits and hopefully meet up with the BF group. Only crappy part is my hotel is an hour away, but who cares, I am riding and that is all that matters. See you guys soon.

Just got my boy scout reservation.
See yall on Friday. I'm heading out around 1-2 to check out the show. (Is it good at all or should I leave later and skip it?)

Quick question here. As a rookie to this ride I don't know the logistics. What time would you say I need to be out at the ride area so I can get a parking spot within an ok distance to the start?

FYI...... Baymont Inn and Suites opens Friday and will begin taking reservations Thurdsay Aug. 23, 2007 at 5pm
Address: 4510 Kell BLVD
Reservation Number: 940 691-7500 after 5pm on Thursday
The owner, Sonny Kurani has had crews working 7 days a week to open by HHH. If you get a room, say thanks!
There has been a lot of hotel mania this year, but the Baymont Inn and Suites may make it all sane again.
