Stuck in Houston.

So I'm stuck in Houston, probably until Tuesday. Anyone wanna show me some decent places to ride? I think I'll go loony if I spend 4 days in this hotel room, but it doesn't look like I'm in the best area to go exploring. I'm up for anything, road ride, park ride, trail ride, light duty off road, pub crawl. I have a bike with me.

Any feedback on Herman Brown Park? I pulled up a map and it's just to the north of me.

Herman Park is OK, Memorial park is better for riding. The Picnic loop is the normal route for road bikes, pluse there are lots of MTB trails in the park.
Drop into Boone cycles or West end cycles for a visit and more information.
The weather is not very good for riding this weekend, the MTB trails will be closed becuase of the rain.
I'm moving this weekend so I cant be of any help as far as a riding partner is concerned.
There is a strong cycling community in Housto, Boones or West End can probably hook you up.

Thanks Don, are those loops in Herman or Memorial? You need any help moving? if it's worth it for you to pick me up, I'm in for some grunt work. Too bad the reason I'm stuck in Houston, is my 18 wheeler is in the shop, I could really help you move if it was up and running.

WorldPax, I'm moving this to the Texas subforum because I think more folks in the Houston area will see it. Hope you find something to do while your rig is being repaired. :)

Thanks, guess I should spend some time exploring the forum more.

The brasewood trail is about a 30 mile from one end to the other and back, plenty of water fountains. There is some contruction going on in some spots, but not a real biggie. Terry Hershey park is another again plenty of water. Both are suitable for road bikes. White Oak bayou trail also.

I passed by the MTB trails in Memorial Park; they are indeed closed; signs posted to that effect. You caught me at a bad time to be helpful in person; perhaps if you are still here mid-week I can be of more help.

I'm too late to respond to you, but for next trip to Houston:

Terry Hershey-George Bush Parks. You can ride 35 miles if you loop end to end.
There are several country roads North and west of Brookshire
You can also start in Katy and go south and meander around towns like Fulshear, Simonton, Wallisville.
The best hilly stuff offered in the area is around Chappel Hill and north throughout Sam Houston National Forest. Send an email to wrobertdavis@yahoo.com before your next trip and I can fix you up with some route maps.

Bob
