Moving to Dallas from GP
As per the title, I will be living in Dallas soon, in an area that looks pretty bike friendly - the Village - can anyone tell me if there's someplace I can go to pick up maps that show the area bike routes? Or a website with maps?

From the Village down Fisher is a straight shot to White Rock Lake. The Village as of late has been in the news for more crime lately but they do have security patrols and the PD is aware.

It's the area bounded by Northwest Hwy, Skillman, Lovers, and Greenville Ave.

Here is a listing of City of Dallas trails
http://www.dallascityhall.com/html/h...trail_map.html
I think the crime is petty theft type stuff, but I could be wrong. I too seldom watch the news.

I've ridden around there and it seems pretty good. Your close to a lot. I edited this post because I thought you were looking for an area--and after further reading--realized you had found a place. I only live a couple of miles from you (toward downtown in East Dallas). A lot of SMU students and seminarians (DTS and Criswell) live in the village so there is a lot of bike traffic.

They are crimes against persons type of stuff in addition to the breaking in cars and stuff and there also was a murder-suicide in the Village too but Dallas, like everywhere is still the wild west in crime stats despite what the media would tell you. Now North of NW Highway, you are talking the real hood and will eventually all be bulldozed down once the Northpark East is completed.
I know several of the leasing agents in the Village and several people live there we know too. They are all good people. Stop by the SBucks @ Caruth Haven-Greenville in the AM, we are regulars on the patio.

I used to live in the Village (The Lakes) about 10 years ago. It is close to the White Rock Lake bike trail and not too far from the north end of the Katy trail over at SMU. As far as crime is concerned, just keep your wits about you and don't go where it doesn't look "right" to you and you will most likely be fine. Enjoy your rides.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like the move is on hold for now
Yesterday, they finally showed us the actual unit we were going to rent and it was ugly and tacky- we didn't like it at all. And they had no other units available of the size we need.
I'm really disappointed - I love the neighborhood and the closeness of everything. I was looking forward to doing a log of riding for my errands.
