What is your favorite group ride in Dallas?

There a bunches of organized rides in the metroplex, and lots of great people to ride with. Which is your favorite?

I am personally partial to the Saturday 9:10 at RBM Coit. The ride is fast paced with lots of surges and a real sprint at the end. It is sorta race simulation and lots of good old fashioned fun.

My personal favorites are the PBA rides. During the summer, I really enjoy the Popsicle rides out of Custer and Renner. Last year I rode with the B group, but I hope to ride with the A group this year.

PBA Distance Builder 2

That's just the ride I'm at now. I don't know if I have a favorite.

Mirage 9:00 out of RBM Dallas. Everytime I think I'm hot **** on the bike I'll go there and get brought back down to earth.

Seconded. The right pace and distance for me during the majority of the riding season.

Any PBA ride - which for me have mostly been the Distance Builder 1 and Sunday Tempo rides, but I'm looking forward to moving up to some of the faster rides come spring. I may try some of the other rides now and again if I'm feeling good, but I'm thinking I'll wait for the 8:00 ride to start back up and use that as my move-up ride.

I'm ready to dropped off the back of the group again and feel that uncertainness I used to get when I first started doing group rides - nothing like seeing the group head over the horizon and realize you have no earthly idea where you are at that moment - but then seeing everyone pulled up at the next stop-sign waiting for you to drag yourself back on to the group. Good times.

There really isn't much difference between the AVS on the A and B rides maybe 1 MPH, but the A ride has more surges. A great way to improve your anaerobic threshold.

I am going to try the 9:00 at RBM Coit. Mike Gacki said they average about 22 MPH over 50 miles

Cool. It'll probably do for me what the B group did at the beginning of the season. I used to have a hard time hanging with them, but by the end I was usually riding towards the front and contested a couple sprints on Renner.

I made it about 40 miles last time...that avg is meaningless since it's the 28-30mph surges that'll wear you down

I ride both the Sat rides at RBM-North and the South rides which is my favorite. A few lead out sprints which will either boost your ego or crush your soul. The south ride has a couple of small hills that make it a little more fun as well.

My favorite is the PBA Saturday OAS Lite ride. Great camaraderie, paceline work, and most importantly, you will never get left out to fend for yourself. It's not break-neck speeds but will certainly give you a great workout (averages 18-20MPH over 50-70 miles). Good ol' fashioned fun!!!

Used to be 'Old And Slow'.

Now they might as well call it the Jeff Wheeler Show.

Ah, based on the average speeds posted I never would have put that together.

+1 - I've heard that story as well, although I think more people go with the "old and slow" explanation.

Either way - I'm working towards OAS Lite for my spring Saturday rides. I may get "convinced/guilted" to try it before then if Mike Emmons griefs me into trying it before then.

I definitely need some pace-line skills though - I failed to back off when I hit the front on Sunday and was reminded to back off a bit once you hit the front.

Keep working on it. A well tuned paceline is a thing of beauty! Just keep in mind that after you pull through, DO NOT make the recovery line chase you. Your speed should decrease by a hair.

Last good pace line I was in was at the PBA labor day ride, that was a ton of fun. Dang was I tapped out by the end of that ride.

Yep - that was exactly my problem. I think Mike Emmons suggested I go up one bigger gear in the back ring and keep about the same cadence so my speed backs off just a touch but we hit a light before I rotated back through so didn't get to try that.

Is there a Sunday version of that ride going on now? If so what time?
