How NOT To Sell Something on CL

Ok, I'm not a hater but maybe I am crabby this week...I was reading this CL and, well, HAD to gripe!

Guy is selling a $200 home made bike repair stand. $200 for a stand puts you against some mighty fine stands out there, so let's take a look at what he's offering....In the ad he posts a picture of a bike and you can barely see any of the stand! Like all you can see are a couple of legs from the stand...Oops! I mean, if you're selling a bike stand, a VERY high priced one, wouldn't it make sense to show pictures of the stand and not of a bike?

see it here

That guy will soon be teaching a course in creative sales prevention.

I was reading another CL ad where a guy has a Schwinn frame and he wants you to text him with questions, he leaves a phone number for the text message. I don't know how the heck to text someone...He says ONLY call if you're serious. Well how can I be serious about buying the frame when he fails to indicate what freaking size it is? How serious is he I wonder?

Just more amazing examples of CL glory.

ps: if either of these are your ads please accept my apologies AFTER you fix them :-)

Here's you another good example:
http://houston.craigslist.org/bik/933650040.html

He's selling a $2,000 recumbent that I've never heard of, but doesn't have a picture in the ad. I see this a fair bit with higher-end bicycles of all kinds. People are experts, and they try to sell to experts and forget that their potential buyer may not know a top tube from an inner tube. They need to sell the sizzle, so to speak- include the technical details, but make it appeal to people, whether they know what the technical details mean or not.

Nice. I'm having a hoot of a time reading CL bike ads. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority are reasonable stuff, but man oh man it seems to attract the full mooners, scammers and nut cases by the score.

Yeah, the CL list can be a maze of crazy postings. What you get when its free. But it does bring you the score of the year as well, like the 3Rensho I picked up earlier today.

That's a good price given no shipping. I've seen prices for a B-17 standard in the mid $40's in the past online, but it's been a while.
