Frisco Hike and Bike Trails to be signed next Tues the 16th

6:30pm at City Hall in Frisco, Council Chamber. A show of support would be nice from the Frisco cyclists!! :thumb:

Timing may be tight, but I'll try to make it. I'm not a Frisco resident yet, but will probably be so within 45 days!

talbert 12-09-08 12:41 PM

Well?

How'd it go? I couldn't make it.

tourist 12-09-08 12:43 PM

It's next week.

Mr_Christopher 12-10-08 08:18 PM

Could you give some details as to what this is about?

tourist 12-11-08 10:30 PM

Frisco Parks and Recreation is hopefully going to sign a plan to add some trails and re-stripe a number of roads in town (4 lane and up) by increasing the right lane by 3' and adding painted bike lanes on a number of east/west and north/south roads. They also plan to connect these routes to communities neighboring Frisco in all directions. There is more involved, but that is the gist. Just looking for some support in the form of bodies in the room for the signing.

apacherider 12-11-08 10:38 PM

Frisco had the chance in the late 80's to incorporate bike lanes and paths in their masterplan. They ignored this easy idea. Really sad they are trying to cobble something together now.

Dallas is so unfriendly to cyclists, anything is a big improvement.

apacherider 12-12-08 07:56 AM

In the 80's, Frisco police would arrest cyclists riding on the Farm-to-Market roads. I was pulled over in 1990 on the little road now occupied by the Roughriders Stadium, where the little RC Airfield was located. The farmers did not like cyclists on their roads, so Frisco adopted a no-cyclists policy. They were real Nazis about it. Came back to bit them though!

BTW-Frisco is not Dallas. I always get a kick out of people who say they are from Dallas, when they actually live in a far flung suburb halfway to Oklahoma.

Mr_Christopher 12-12-08 09:49 AM

Frisco hasn't been a farming community for some time now. It's arguably the new family capitol of north texas so it makes sense they're adopting a much more cycle friendly perspective.

And I'll bash Dallas as well as the next guy but keep in mind we have the highest rate of MUP per mile of roadway than any other city in the state. That says something. Yeah our "bicycle coordinator" seems to have contempt for cyclists (and also has a bloated view of his own importance) and we lack bike lanes and only now (Jan 09) are we starting to add bike racks to DART buses, but Dallas doesn't suck 100% for cyclists.

Frisco and McKinney are now the fastest growing suburbs in the DFW metroplex. I has it's own velodrome, good access to lightly traveled FM roads to the north and to the east.

Yeah, like a whole 7 or 8 years! Frisco lost all it's association with the farming community when uneducated folks demanded they change the name of the high school mascot.

Frisco was once great for cycling. Now it is a hell hole.

Imagine being able to ride north through Plano, over to Little Elm, out to Prosper and back, without seeing more than a dozen cars on a ride. That was some great riding!

such is life and progress, not saying it's a good thing, just a fact. I'm sure a lot of those people who voted to change the mascot would really appriciate knowing you consider them uneducated. And thank you for calling the town I'm moving to a hell hole. I know I appriciate that. Never been to Taos, NM, but if I do, I'll be sure to remember to tell you what I thought of it. By my tone I hope you can figure out what I think about you.

Frisco is where dreams go to die.

People just give up, then decide to move there. Or maybe it's people move there and then give up. There are some strange people in Frisco. The crime rate there coupled with the bizarre nature of the crimes leads me to believe the population there is polluted.

I spend 1/2 my time in Dallas, 1/2 my time in Taos. Even ran the White Rock Marathon today.

Ummm, congrats on the White Rock, but I think I'd feel a lot better if you spent both halves of your time in Taos, Mr. Congeniality!!

well personally I thought the name change of the HS mascot was pretty lame. and yes I live
in Frisco. My wife lived in Frisco in the late 80's early 90's. When I moved down we used the Vet on
720 in the middle of what is now a subdivision or 3.
While I don't always agree with Apacherider, I do bemoan the loss of open roads in Frisco, Prosper
etc. It's gotten worse (in terms of riding) since I moved to Frisco in 2000. Yes it's progress but geez
I wish they'd stop with the Pizza Hut parks, and other big ticket high traffic volume projects. I just heard this weekend that Allen wants to put in a mall bigger than Mall of America, does it ever end?
ok, end of my little rant.
Tourist, what day is the meeting?

Marty
