Anywhere to road ride near Sugar Land?

When I am in the Houston area for any extended period of time, I'm usually staying with my parents out west in Fulshear - plenty of good riding out there. I'll be at the in-laws for Christmas this year though and they're in Sugar Land. Is there any good riding accessible to that area or will I have to pack up the bike and head out of town for a decent spin of the pedals? Any advice is appreciated - Thanks!

Southwest Cycling Club is based out of sugarland. Their website has a map of their typical ride. no personal experience with them, but worth a shot.

This is a pretty good 50 mile ride from Frost Elementary in Sugarland to Fulshear, then Brookshire, and back. You'll see a lot of bikes on this route on Sat and Sun. There's a Shell station that's very bike friendly too if you need a bathroom/foodstop.

I didn't map it, so I can't guarantee it's perfect with turn by turn. You might want to pull out a map first.

I live down in Sugar land and have ridden with SWCC a couple times. The group is good but even with the "B" group we took a pretty high pace. I think it probably averaged about 21mph but good pacelines. I think we did about 50 miles, it has been a while since I went with them.

I usually do rides in Houston rather than from my house so I don't know those areas as well. My averages are probably closer to 17-18mph now (too lazy).

Nearly every road around you is for riding out there.

If you are east of US 59 in Sugar Land, it may be possible to head east--lots of good roads in neighboring Brazoria County.

If you can get anywhere near this route that I drew below, then you can get to the Arcola/Fresno area, where basically any county road is fair game, as is FM 521, which has nice shoulders going South.

Highway 6 is okay when you get into Missouri City all the way to Manvel city limits, but I'd stay off this deathtrap if possible outside of this area.

Finally, I think Oilfield road in the map below isn't where Google says it is due to construction, but it works. Also, you can avoid the Sienna Plantation area if you want as well, I just think it's a bit more scenic.
