How do you know what day it is?

If the previous 4 days have been sunny and mild, and you wake up and it's frigid, overcast, and windy, it must be SATURDAY!!!

Not to worry, it was all according to prophecy...er, forecast, that is. Sposed to be 30's with 20 mph wind from the north, I haven't been out to check.

I was thinking I might take a sack of anvils with me to help with the wind. Have to find them first.

Went out in the wind last night around 9:30 and had to pedal hard to go down a hill ,where I usually hit 25 mph or more, to go 9-10 mph. YEESH!

Of course I managed to get my(large)self to 15 mph going back UP.

I'll be going out as soon as I can convince myself to bundle up. Still have just over 100 miles to meet my goal for this month.

I always tell what day, and date, it is, by looking at my watch! That is, of course, only, if I need to know....

This is why I love the 10-day forecasts on weather.com. I already did my training goals for the week, so today I can sit on my ass and surf the internet, guilt-free, and call it a recovery day.

Hey, that worked pretty good. Took a bag of anvils with me and didn't get blown away once. Rode up to Firewheel Town Center and back home by a different route, 20 miles total. I rode north specifically so I could coast home. Here I am with the bag of anvils:

And here's a detail that I posted in the Roadie "pictures, no talking" thread:

seriously, a bike racing anvil? I thought that I had seen it all, what in the world would you actually want one of those for? Does it really count as an anvil at 454 grams?

I was going to ride this morning and I woke up at 0800 to find rain and wind.

Well, it's not exactly serious.

I DO have a daughter, so maybe potential boyfriends will know not to wrong the daughter of the man that carries a bag of anvils with him.

By the way...for anyone that thought it was too cold to ride...this is a blow-up of the picture above. These little girls were out at the mall in their shorty cheerleader dresses getting their pictures taken. I got cold sitting there for 5 minutes, myself, and I'm "well insulated".

Well you have convinced me, after I have gotten up off the floor. Where do you get a racing anvil? I wonder if I could straighten the teeth on my chainring with one of those!

I found 'em at Harbor Freight Tools a couple of years ago, printed up the little card myself. They're 1-lb anvils. I've seen slightly smaller ones, seems like for jewelry use. I see the HFT website says they're cast steel, but I'm pretty sure they're cast iron. I bought them for making some pictures.

Drove in from up in Ozarks late last night from a college visit with the kiddo. Was 70 on Friday when we did the campus tour and acaedic meetings and Saturday when she worked out with the soccer team it was high 30's.

My return at 1:30 this morning wasn't any better here. Ugh.

Actually, it just means it's the weekend of the FrostBike50

It had warmed to 48deg by the time I finished the 55mi on Sunday.
