Need a professional fitting in Dallas
 

Having some problems on my bike with numbness in my hands. Had a thread going about it in the SSFG subforum, and I am just going to go to a shop and get professionally fitted.

Can anyone recommend a shop or particular fitter? I am having kind of a specific problem, but I don't want to spend a few hundred dollars on some computerized fit either. The closest shop to me is the RBM by the lake, but I will drive wherever I can get the best fit.

I have been riding the bike for a few months and just can't quite get comfortable on it.

Any recommendations?

Blank on the guy's name, but he works out of Richardson Bike Mart's Frisco location. Someone will chime in with who I'm talking about. He's Serotta certified and did a very good job when I went to get mine done a while back. Which reminds me, I should probably take the new bike in and get it fine tuned as well.

Tom Ernst out of the Frisco location of Richardson Bike Mart did a MAGNIFICENT job with fitting me on a pre-owned track bike, and I was buying the track bike from someone else, not RBM. He spent a significant amount of time and made numerous adjustments, suggestions, and recommendations until the bike felt very comfortable to me. The fitting was not done with a computer (Retul), but I'll bet that there wouldn't be any changes as the bike feels great when I ride it at The Superdrome. You wouldn't go wrong with having him take a look and listen to the issues you currently have with the bike fit now. Best of luck, and enjoy the ride after the fit.

+1 on going to see Tom, he does fittings for Jim (the owner of RBM) that's a bit of
a recommendation in itself.
I went to see Tom about a back issue, spent a good 1/2 on my bike on the trainer and
by the end of the session was much better.

This isn't to say the fitters in the Richardson or White Rock stores are bad, they're good
I just prefer Tom.

Is Tom still the guy? I'm in Lakewood, is there anyone good closer to me than Frisco? (White Rock RBM, Wheels in Motion, Performance, Dallas Bike Works, etc)

He did a great job. I live in Lakewood, too, and it was worth the drive. Fitting cost abot $55 I think. Well worth it.

Mike Gacke and Woody at the Richardson store have both done a great job for me, with the little bit of fitting I have done for the Cervelo test ride.

Gacke set up a bike almost perfect just by looking at me. When I got on the bike, the seat only had to be adjusted down a fraction of an inch, everything else was spot on.

I would also recommend goingto Mad Duck in Grapevine if driving isnt a concern. Clarence is a great guy and runs an awesome shop. Very professional and willing to help

RBM does a $55 fitting? Whoda thunk it?

Ge, throw in another $25 for getting your cleats aligned and your out of the door for under $200 after you buy all of the other stuff you didn't realize you needed before you went in, or maybe that's just me, lol.

Seriously, I might check this out for that price.

Cleat adjustments will be done with the fitting - the first thing they did, as I recall. As far as all the accessories, etc you "need", you're on your own there.......

+1 I just got my new bike from RBM this weekend and Mike did my fitting. It was my first "real" bike fit, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but he was friendly, knowledgeable and answered all my dumb questions :P

I was considering getting my next bike online (e.g. BD), but this experience just confirmed my decision that having personal connections and resources trumps the difference in price.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

I'm thinking about getting a bike fitting. I noticed that the fitting at Richardson Bike Mart is $175 now. I also noticed that Mad Duck doesn't seem to list fitting on their site, so I wonder if they still do it. Actually, one of their web sites has a link that goes nowhere.

I found some higher end services that are about $300. Maybe that's worth it. I'm not racing, I road ride pretty casually. But I'm thinking about getting a new bike, want to get the right size and just enjoy my rides.

Has anyone had a bike fitting in Dallas recently? Good experience?

I have had poor results from Plano Cycling & Fitness. I admit I am a difficult case with overly long legs. They kept insisting on pushing me forward (KOPS). Very nice people who are perfect for the beginner, but not someone with advanced needs.
