Kingwood area rides/training
Found out yesterday that I'll be coming down to Houston next week, for 45 days. Downside is I'll have very limited availability to a car and Christmas isn't letting me drive my own down there, so I'm flying in on Wednesday. Thinking I'll probably ship a road bike so I at least have that. I've been searching online for roads and rides. Hoping someone can help narrow things down for me.
It looks like Bike Barn in Atascocita has a weekly ride. That shop is ~10 miles from where I'll be staying, and assuming a safe route to get there...10mi there, 35 mi ride and 10 back gets me ~55. I'm good w/ that. (btw, it looks like Houston could really benefit from some tectonic plate movement to gain a little elevation in spots lol)
Also, I don't NEED a group ride. I'm fine riding solo. I'll try searching some strava, ride w/ gps, etc....but does anyone have a route or ride in that area that they recommend? I'll even fork over some $$ for a shop or cycling coach that offers in house training if the outdoors isn't a realistic training option. Thanks in advance for all your help guys. Trying to keep this base cycling fitness throughout the winter and would hate to miss out on 6-7 weeks of quality training time.

Welcome to Houston/Kingwood. I live in Kingwood and ride from there normally. For now I am off the bike recovering from melanoma surgery. The Bike Barn group is active. Their Saturday ride usually goes east over Lake Houston south to Crosby to Summerwood and back to the store. Sometimes they reverse that. You can check my Strava rides for routes that I take to the north of Kingwood as well as to the south and east. https://www.strava.com/athletes/201200
If you want a different ride the Spring Creek Greenway starts at the San Jacinto River at US59 and goes to the west about 18 miles and 18 miles back.
Other cyclists ride from Kingwood and you can find them on Strava too.

The guys at Tailwind Bikes in Kingwood also have rides on Saturdays. They either head north or do a similar Crosby route. The Spring Creek Trail is nice, but has drawbacks. It's curvy and has plenty of walkers and joggers, so speed can be limited to 16-18 mph tops. Police have been patrolling to keep speeds down too. After rains. it can get a bit sandy and have some puddles. Still, it's off the streets, shaded, protected from wind and a pretty ride. It also goes through a few parks, so restroom facilities are easily found.
