HH 100 Hotel Rooms?

Does anyone know about hotel availability for the Hotter N Hell 09? Also, where have you stayed in the past that you have liked? Anyone stayed in a host home?

I would camp, but I'm going with a couple of wussys.

Have you tried the links for hotels on the HTH page? Hate to say it but I made reservations at the Ramada back in February and many of the hotels were already booked....

I'll just drive up from Garland.

There were supposed to be some new hotels open this year. The link on the HHH homepage is your best bet. http://www.hh100.org/

We have stayed at the Candlewood suites the last several years. Its an extended stay hotel, more expensive but its worth it. We always go up on Thursday evening and stay till Sunday.

Good luck in finding a place.

There are always last minute cancellations and people who need someone to take their spot.

I got a room at the Holiday Inn, on the freeway a couple miles from the start, last year about a week before eace day. Apparently the hotel has a "no cancel" policy for HHH.

I forgot about the forum on the HHH website. You have to join the forum , but as august approaches, there are folks that have prepaid for rooms and can;t make it and are looking for someone to take them. Its a long shot, but there is always a chance.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I knew I was kind of late and I was already planning on camping, until my friend from the UK and my bro-in-law decided to join up. Bro-in-law is a new road biker, and a road warrior in this area for his job (he has to stay in lots of hotels around Texas). When he couldn't pull anything will all of his points and 'special cards', etc., I told him I would ask.

Apparently, Best Western is opening two more hotels before the start, and he is now on a list for a reservation for one of these (taking reservations once they open). If anyone else is looking, please post here and I will try and get more info for you. I've also thought about the Boy Scout camp (friends have had good luck with this) or a host home. Again, thanks for your help.

Johnny Carino's on Friday night anyone? We've done this a couple of times in the past (except last year) and it has made for some good pasta before the ride (and not very crowded, surprisingly).

I'm waiting to see how I fare in the 100K Weatherford Peach Pedal on 7/11/09. I'd be bummed if I couldn't make it to Hell's Gate in time for my first century ride. If I sign-up for HH100, I'll likely drive up in the early AM, camp or look for a cancelation.

Last year I procrastinated pretty bad but then I called the number for Host Homes and it was simple. She gave me a couple names and phone numbers to call and said one asked for a certain amount for staying the other asked for a donation to be made to the local food bank. I stayed at an older gentlemans house and basically only used it as a place to go to sleep and then get up early the next morning but I would highly recommend trying that. I will likely call and do it again this year for the ride. There is a chance that you could end up with someone strange but just try to find the address and see what kind of part of town it is in.

If anyone ends up with a room they can't use, I'll take it off you hands. We camped last year and can camp again, but if we can find a room... all the better :)

Also, anyone know of a place to rent a popup camper for that weekend? I've done a quick search online, but I only find actual RVs. $400 due to a 3 day minimum is too steep.

The year I did it we got lucky. The Motel 6 is a DUMP --the then-fiance said ELLS NO we're not staying there. (especially since despite my reserving a non-smoking room they didn't have any, and the smoking room nearly knocked us on our backsides). We recalled a billboard on the highway and ended up calling the Crescent Plaza. They had someone at the desk who was canceling their room as we were calling. Timely.
