Perhaps. JCC area? I am not fast. When I am feeling optimal, my pace is about 16 MPH, according to another rider's computer. I promise I will NOT get vegetable fried rice from Mai's at 0300, like I did last week!

Sound like a plan - should we meet at 7:00 am tomorrow morning at the JCC? 13-16 mph is right around my comfortable cruising speed. If anybody else would like to ride with us, just reply. I'd like to get a few hrs of riding in the cool morning air, then head back home and watch the UT-OU game (I believe kickoff is 11 am).

Regards,
Aaron

I will be setting off in a few minutes; I will not make JCC by 0700, in case anyone is possibly looking at this on a mobile device, but I do plan to ride there.

It was a pleasure to finally meet aaronechang; we passed each other on the Braes Bayou MUP, then had a good ride through Bellaire, West U, Montrose, and The Heights, then back to the Montrose. Then, we parted ways, and I rode to Boone to buy another pair of Specialized BG Deflect gloves. Every few years, a glove maker gets something right, and I have learned to stock up when that happens, because the next year's model will be different in some way.

Beautiful cycling weather! It started out in the upper 50's (Fahrenheit) and was mid-60's or so when I rolled up to the house. Now, to try to coax the wife into an afternoon ride.

I have been away from BF and not riding as much as I would like to. The weather Sat should be good once we get past the rain of Thursday and Friday. Anybody interesting in a Sat 10/31/09 Halloween morning ride?

I talked to my riding partner Steve this morning and we are planning on a 125 mile ride to Quintana Beach leaving at 6:00 am from the McDonalds at Hillcroft/Braeswood on Saturday. Probably cruise around 19 mph. Anyone is welcome to join us for the whole trip or at least the first part of it if you don't want so many miles. It will be the usual Hillcroft--McHard--FM521--business 288 route.

Planned route is the same-old-same-old:

south on Hillcroft (less traffic), east on McHard, south on FM521, slight jog south on business 288 through Angleton and down through Clute/Freeport to Quintana.

Rough mileage estimates and good stops, all with restrooms:
Highway 6 is 18 miles (36 round trip)
Rosharon is 27 miles
North Angleton Chevron is 33 miles
Angleton Wal-Mart is 40 miles (nice bathrooms and plenty of food to buy for cheap)
55 miles to the Clute Shipleys donut shop or Buckees
and 63 miles to the mid-point stop at the beach

Turn around can be anywhere. I have planned to go to Quintana before and turned around early for various reasons. But this time I have to at least get a century in because if I don't I'll miss out on completing my century-a-month challenge for 2009 as I have no centuries for October yet.

EDIT: Tue night the predicted wind speeds for Saturday were 4mph from the SW, which means a calm day with ever so slight tail wind on the way home. Winds are now revised out of the northwest, which will be a tailwind the first half of the ride, and so far winds look to be dying down during the morning below 6mph, but the 48hr forecast isn't out for past 7am yet, so I'll have to keep an eye on that. Weather will be very cool at the start, but overall should be a great day for cycling.

Tentatively, I will try to make the early part of this one, as long as I can keep up. There is no way I will be able to make the whole distance, of course.

Look forward to having you join us, Rex, and anyone else. Again, meet up at McDonalds off Hillcroft at Braeswood. We will be heading south down Hillcroft at 6:00. I don't know when they are open but imagine you can get a cup of coffee if that is your thing before 6.

Weather forecast has been changing some, now the rain is ending earlier in the day Friday so will give roads/shoulders a good chance to dry out. Hopefully the prediction of wind speeds not getting above 5mph on Sat will hold as that is basically a calm day.

Seems like the cold weather and the holidays have slowed down riding for a lot of is lately. On most Sat mornings I have loaded up the bike and ridden from Richmond to Fulshear and back. Any one else interested in a early Sat ride on 12/5?

I'd be up for a ride this Sat. Perhaps we can ride for a bit in the morning and then meet up with the cyclist memorial ride.

What has happened to this the Houston group? We had some good rides this summer, but since early fall the people have stopped posting. Has everyone left because of the new Forum format?

Still here and posting haven't really been riding that much because of finicky weather. Really don't like riding 45 or below temps anything above I am down for.

I guess the cold and wet weather have kept everyone but the diehards off their bike. Hopefully after such a bad winter we will get a nice spring.

Get to hear from you Rex.

Any one hear from Tex Arcadia?

I wanted to take a month off of cycling but it turned into about 2-1/2 months. Not only that the food fairies seduced me since the holidays and I'm about 8 pounds heavier than I was 4 months ago. Just now working on changing to healthier eating habits. Started cycling again last week for fitness (hour long rides at brisk pace). I'll be up for doing some distance pretty soon.

Yeamac - so no century a month challenge for 2010?

It seems that it is easier to stay off the bike than one thinks. From our ride in Sept early, I was off the bike till late Oct. For me keeping the weight off when off the bike is hard.

Let me know when the long rides come back. I have become a much stronger ride since we last rode. This training for the MS150 has been a good thing for my overall fitness level.

No riding lately. I was compelled by a certain female to remove my bikes to rented storage. I don't want to derail this thread with more on this. There is a thread in Foo.

When I am able to resume riding, I may or may not still be in the SW Houston area.
