Rural rides in Austin area?

I will be in South Austin next week and would like to get a few Rambles in. I have checked the local bike shop websites and have not found any ride maps. MapMyRide has a bunch of routes, but little to no information on them. I would prefer 25-40 mile rides outside of town with little traffic.

Thanks!

take Congress Ave. south of Slaughter lane. Cut through the parking lot of Akins High School, to Old San Antonio Rd. You can take that to Cabela's in Buda or take a left on Puryear Rd. and take that to Creedmoor. However, I haven't been on the Creedmoor leg for awhile since they recently finished construction on a tollway over there. I don't know what it is like now that construction is finished.
To the west on Slaughter, you can connect with Loop 1 South to Camp Ben McCullough Rd. This is a high speed 4 lane road, but has a wide shoulder that is heavily used by cyclists. It will also take you to the veloway, which is a 2 lane blacktop 5km closed loop, exclusively for bikes and rollerblades.
You can actually take Old San Antonio all the way to San Marcos, but the traffic getting through Buda has gotten to be a real pain.
There used to be some good maps on the Hill Country AIDS Ride page, but I can't find them now.

I have not ridden this route, but FWIW, I saved this topic a while back, for future reference: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=292606

Going to that topic, I found this one link that still worked: http://bicycleaustin.info/getaround/...anantonio.html

Of course, this is a route from Austin to San Antonio, not a scenic loop, but it's a start.

Check the Austin Cycling Association site, they usually have rides going on. Check the classic and hosted section. http://www.austincycling.org/

Manor ride: http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/tx...24744857642658

about 40 miles, I did it this pass weekend and it was pretty good, make sure to take a spare...you get way out in the country where there is nothing but farms

The rides linked below are actually a bit north of town, but are rural and quite nice. The generous Sun City Cyclists have posted their routes on the web:

Its worth the drive to get out of town a bit in my opnion.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I parked over at Atkins and meandered through Buda and down to Kyle. Turn out to be a nice little 40 mile ride. I will try some of the other rides posted here over the week.

i'm super late for this, but will post anyways in case you are in town; i've found some really neat routes in veloroutes.org search "austin texas" and it'll tell you where to go, how hilly it is, elevation, etc...
