I just learned of this:
If I understand correctly, as part of the Hwy 121 extension, the Hulen, and Bryant-Irvin bridges will come down over the Trinity Trails.

A new bridge - with Bicycle and Pedestrian access - will be built! The Bike/Ped access will be suspended below and connect to Trinity Trails!

Clearfork Main Street Bridge Design To Be Unveiled
The City of Fort Worth will unveil the final design for the Clearfork Main Street Bridge at an open house from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 (Thursday) at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd.

Exhibits about the bridge and plans for the surrounding area will be on display, and there will be a brief presentation in the auditorium. City staff and members of the design team will discuss the bridge.

The 1,800-foot roadway and bridge will connect Stonegate Boulevard to the planned Clearfork Main Street in southwest Fort Worth, linking Hulen Street to Bryant Irvin Road and the Southwest Parkway. The bridge will carry four lanes of traffic across the Trinity River. A separate pedestrian crossing will be suspended from the bridge to accommodate foot and bicycle traffic.

The pedestrian level will feature eight overlooks, four on each side. The design includes trail links on both banks of the river.

That'll help out on my commute because it'll cut out the times I have to ride up around Colonial CC to Rogers when the water's over the low water crossing.

I'm curious if the will be access up to the Central Market from the Clearfork Main route.


It'll probably chase off the wild turkeys and foxes in that section, too though...

After going to the meeting I found out a few things:

. The new bridge will connect to a development called Clearfork. It will not run straight through, but will connect from Hulen to Bryant Irvin in the patch of land between the train yard and the river.

. The basic roads in Clearfork will be complete prior to the bridge. The bridge is supposed to be open by the summer of 2011. So as soon as it opens there will be connectivity between Hulen and Bryant Irvin.

. The Trinity River Trail will remain open throughout construction. This was stated in the meeting but hard to imagine how they can build a bridge over the trail with out at least some spot closures.

. This bridge will not affect access to the north side of the train yard. However, the Hulen Street bridge over the train yard and Vickery will be reconstructed as part of the Southwest Parkway construction and will include a cycle/pedestrian lane that is separate from the motorized lanes.

. The Clearfork bridge will consist of three separate spans. There will be east- and west-bound spans for motor traffic. Hanging in between the two, and at a lower level, will be the cycle/pedestrian span. There is a pretty long approach to the motor lanes and it will be quite a bit higher than the cycle/pedestrian span, which will basically be at a level right at the top of the levee; i.e., no climbing to cross the bridge, and it will run between the trails on either side of the river. There will also be a "through lane" that will go under all the spans so cyclists don't have to slow down for bridge traffic.
