Selling old/broken jewelery in Dallas.

I have a broken gold ring that I want to sell, anyone ever sold gold in Dallas? Reccomendations / warnings ?

all I can offer is the constant radio ads that Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange runs... no idea what rates they pay etc.

also a quick google I'm sure will find you plenty of web-based buyers

You can look up online what you're get...
one example (place where I've physically been to buy jewelry supplies)

http://www.monsterslayer.com/Pages/M...eBuyScrap.aspx

Now this is for scrap metal from making jewelry..... which is about the same as the pawn shops will give you.
They pretty much all go by what the prices is for the day...
Current Precious Metals Markets

Date: 12/8/2010 Silver: $28.50 Gold: $1,385.50
They just pay for the metal weight...oh, the $6000 diamond in the ring, ok, we'll keep it, but we're not going to pay you for it, you said you wanted to sell the GOLD.
And since it's white gold, sorry, we don't really want it, yellow gold is all the rage now.... but we'll give you a bit less since it has more base metal (nickle).

If I had some same cash, I'd buy it from you since I want to get back into real jewelry making... I remember way back whey I couldnt' afford $34 a oz for gold... sheese!
Good luck.
Mary

Thanks y'all. Ended up taking it to a jewelery store on the southbound 75 frontage road between arapaho and beltline and got $250 for it.

That sound way better than any estimates I got for mine stuff..
What's the name of the store? Might be worth a trip.....
Thanks
Mary

It was called America's Gold and Diamaond Exchange at 425 S. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 75080. Little jewelery store that bought gold and diamonds on the spot for cash.

By coincidence my daughter was asking me about an old gold ring that I have. Out of curiosity I dug out my scale, weighed the ring, and did the math. It seems that the old ring has about $200 of gold in it, and it's not a very heavy ring.

When you carry old gold into a store to sell it, do you get the market price for it or do they discount some percentage to cover their trouble, profit, etc.?

Also, how do they determine the gold percentage (carat) of random old gold?
