Hi. I recently moved to Temple, TX. Can anyone recommend a bike fitter near Temple (possibly Waco or Austin if necessary)? Bonus points for someone who won't be intimidating to an overweight woman with just a little cycling experience.

I can't remember the girls name but she works at the Bicycle Sport Shop in Austin, the one down on Lamar. I bought a smallish Serotta that she had for sale and when I went to pick it up she was busy doing a fitting with a local woman, I watched from a respectful distance and was impressed with her technique and attitude...that was about 2 years ago so I'm not sure she's still there, give them a call, wish I could remember her name.

The bike shops in Temple and Killeen are both owned by Ross, who can be a bit overkill. I'm not sure if he sold out, otherwise the shop in Temple has a pretty cool cat there. Brian or something, if I recall. He's a 50s style greaser with a huge amount of knowledge on bikes. I'd recommend buying from them. They have always had decent prices, and such. Larry's bikes in Copperas Cove is a bit of an old-school establishment. Very few new bikes.
If you go to Austin, just go to Johnny's, the staff there is top notch.
I spent the better part of the last 11 years or so living in Copperas Cove/Temple/Belton and commuted regularly there. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. My wife's parents still live in Cove, and work in Temple.

John, at Sun Country in Temple is extremely knowledgeable about bicycles and won't bs you into getting something that wouldn't work for you. You wouldn't go wrong with him helping you select and fit a bicycle regardless of your size or cycling experience. And best of all, since you are now living in Temple and he works at a shop in Temple, he would be readily available to answer questions and/or for bike tweaks...he's a feal good guy.
