Richardson Bike Mart Wrecks?
Anyone know what happened the last few weeks?

it's April... lots of riders come out for the good weather, big packs leave from the store, wrecks happen. Don't mean to sound callous, but it happens every year, all over the world.

The only way to ride in a group is to ride in a group. Some have more vertical learning curves than others.

Alot of rusty and/or inexperienced people out there riding now. Most are trying to get fit enough to do something circled in their calendar like the MS150. They know virtually nothing and often get in over their heads when they need to make a decision.

Stay away from groups unless you know who the riders are around you. A good barometer was once what kind of bike someone had in regards to what kind of rider they were. Out the window now. Alot of fresh off the turnip truck riders have $5-7,000 bikes.

I heard that there were two fairly serious wrecks the past two weeks involving shattered frames and shattered bones. Anyone know what happened?

kind of an older thread, but i think at the time of the posting of the above question, we had had some rain come through on a saturday night. the sunday ride rolled out as usual, but the roads were slick. i split off from the group with a couple guys to stay a bit ahead of the major pack. there were several sections of mudslides across the feeder road along 80 - our small pack caught this and were lucky enough to not go down.

at the first rest stop we found out that when the bigger group hit that slick patch, there was a wreck and an ambulance was called. we split off ahead of the group again, and at the end of lawson rd, another slick spot from mud/rain caused myself to slip and slide across the turn. that wreck was just me though, and i was fine aside from brusing and a nice cut up cheek. I did hear the group behind us had more wrecks, i just don't know where. it was a super slick day. the weather has been nutty up here...

You think it's the weather or crappy riders? Back when the Wednesday Night Worlds was going on, which uses the same RBM south route, we would RACE not ride. Balls out, no prisoners taken. Other than a couple of times people were hit by cars and a DART bus, no one ever wrecked due to bike handling, road conditions etc. I can recall riding down roads so swamped with water during heavy thunderstorms that I had to take my bottom bracket off my frame to get the water out!

Speed was the key to safety. The weak, the inexperienced, the lame, the halt, the blind, were simply spit off the back to fend for themselves, alone. Screw pack riding with idiots.

I have to agree... callous as it does sound there are a lot of people who have just enough in the tank to hang on and not nearly enough in the tank to ride withing themselves.

I have also noticed a trend, and I welcome comments on this, of people who are riding very poorly fitted bicycles. They tend to ride frames that are far too large and this necessitates a short, vertical stem. This is also likely a result of poor fitness and no flexibility... the end result is a very twitchy bike that is difficult or impossible to ride in a straight line. Poor technique only makes the situation worse.
