TMC station bike storage?

Hi fellow Houstonians,

I'm going to be working downtown this summer and would like to start commuting in to work rather than deal with Houston traffic snarliness. My current plan is to ride my bike along the Braes Bayou path to the Fannin/Texas Med Center station and then take the METROrail or a bus into downtown itself. My question is, what are the bike storage facilities like at that station? The Metro website says there are bike racks, but are they in a somewhat secure location? Has anyone ever had a bike stolen from there? I would take my bike with me but they aren't allowed in the railcars after 6 am and I'd like to avoid the hassle of loading/unloading them on the bus racks (although I'd still consider that as an option of course). What are your experiences with biking and using the Metro system?

If you ride into the Med Center why not ride to downtown. At one point I would ride from Gessner and Braeswood to UHD. It was a great ride when I left on time.

That is what I eventually want to work up to, but this will be my first time going further than the 3-mile radius around my house and I'm hesitant to immediately tackle 9+ miles in the middle of the Houston summer. Commuting half by bike, half by bus/rail seems like a good way to start. What route did you take to get to UH from Gessner?

I went down the Braes Bayou trail ( hard to do now with all the construction ) all the way down to the Med Center. I then either zipped around the Zoo/museum district or cut through by Rice University area. I took the road all the way through downtown to UHD. It takes about 45 miles from door to door. I always timed it where I was not riding in rush hour traffic as much as possible.
