Hotter n' Hell New Route - No Beer Stop!!?

HHH has changed the route, and does NOT go through the 98 mile rest stop location!! :notamused: SAD!!! I wonder if the beer guys will move their famous rest stop? Go to the HHH web site for the new maps. The plus side is that everybody goes through the Air Force Base!

Pretty different than years past. A lot more mileage to the west for the 100 mile route. Looking at the combined map online, I'm not sure I get the bail-out route from Hell's Gate...it looks to me that you'll be riding back "against" the route once you connect back up...granted, no riders should be coming from the start by then but it better be well marked so that people don't end up jumping onto the shorter routes and end up making it a lot longer!

The HHH was the first century I ever did...2006...if it weren't such a haul from Austin I'd be tempted to do it again.

the HH100 was also my first century, in 2009 - finished non-stop in 5:25

I haven't done it yet, the distance from Houston and difficulty with accomadation keep putting me off. It's one of those must do rides so guess I need to take the plunge for next year and book up immediately after this years event. Or perhaps I'll find another excuse :p

Accommodations are not an insurmountable obstacle, especially if you are driving that far.

I just looked at the maps and I agree about the bail-out route. In fact it isn't even clear how it gets back through Iowa Park and on to Wichita Falls. If they are going backwards down business 287 that isn't good unless they close the road completely and that isn't good either. Going west on 287 after the start isn't so bad because they close the road and have enough riders filling the road that cars won't mess with cyclists, but people on the bailout route will be trickling along over a long time period and moving slowly which isn't compatible with traffic.

The extra part of the 100 mile route to the southwest of Electra is pretty desolate country. I won't be riding the 100 mile route but I might drive that road the next time I'm up there just to see what it's like.

Just got an email from Bike'N Mike saying that the route hs just changed again. No Hells gate?
The New Course at the HHH does not have a Hell's Gate feature nor
does it have a 75 mile option. They have not changed the route maps on
their website yet, but keep watching the HHH website for their new
routes.

Looks like the route stays the same with no Hell's Gate or bailout option.
