Dallas Riders - Question about East Dallas Loop (Sunnyvale)

Guys

I don't know about you but this time change and getting dark at 5 is killing my riding. I have been riding this "East Dallas Loop" on Sunday's and really like it but wanted to find out if any one has been using this route on Saturday morning also? What is the traffic like and is it "safe" route on Saturdays?

I am asking as it seems the roads could be really busy based on the area and since it follows the freeway out to Sunnyvale. I really just don't want to get out there and find out there is a lot of fast moving traffic or the roads are heavly used.

Thanks!
Ray

Late to reply, but...

The short answer is yes, the south loop is traveled heavily by cyclists on the weekends. You can go out with the 8:30 group sat or Sunday mornings, leaving from the bikemart on garland rd. there's also a 7:30 and 9 group for faster speeds. The 8:30 is a social ride. Traffic is usually light.

I ride through Sunnyvale quite a bit, but never heard of the "East Dallas Loop", so can't tell you how traffic is.

Thanks guys, I knew about the Sunday ride and most times only ride on Sundays but never on Saturdays. Thanks for the lead on this other group ride!

Stephen - I was not sure if it had an official name so made one up. In short it is the route taking the HW 80 service road out to Sunnyvale then around the roads in that area. I see now it is also called "South Loop" Route

I see. Well, most of that route outside Loop 635 can be ridden any time, pretty much. That's also the Greater Dallas Bicyclists Tuesday-Thursday Poteet ride (starts at Poteet High School in Mesquite) and part of that is the Don Johle's Bike World Saturday morning route. I've seen big groups riding out there, but didn't know where they came from, either. And with some of the groups I've seen, the major hazard is the 29 other riders in front of you, but I digress. Come to think of it, the Rockway groups may come through there.
