Talking Bike Bridges To Help Link Southwest Austin To Downtown

This isn't hot off the press news, but it is a very big deal to commuter cyclists and rec/weekend riders as well.
I do feel like SpareWheel from PDX. Cyclists do have some rights in Austin. Texas Depart of Transportation will be taking on the project for cyclists, creating bicycle bridges and an 8 foot wide cycle path to get into Zilker Park and downtown Austin.

Very nice. Many thanks.

It'll be a while but I'm looking forward to using that bridge over the greenbelt. I don't mind riding Mopac south from 360 to get down to SW Pkwy but that leaves me with no options coming north except to go through Barton Creek/Lost Creek or to wind through Westgate/S. Lamar to get back home. I'm not sure what impact it may have for commuters but it'll be great for us folks trying to get fit.

What kind of bikes do you ride ? You can ride the trails in Williamson Creek but it helps to have a cyclocross or commuter mtn bike.

Also, you can cut through Sunset Valley, that church on Westgate, to Western Trails/Redd. That allows connectivity north on Packsaddle Pass to Lamar or Barton Hills/Zilker or you can continue on Western Trails to Redd to Bannister and pickup route 31 to downtown or all the way north to 183 and beyond......

I'll check out the local forum and see what there is to see.

Regarding routes, I ride road bikes so anything rougher than the hike and bike trail is a no go for me.
