How is Zube Park in Hockley?
I see that a lot of groups meet out there and do some riding. I've never gone before but it's got me pretty curious now.

It is a really nice place to start a ride. Lots of parking areas and good facilities onsite. Going north and west from there you can get rides of 20-100 miles on good mostly smooth pavement, mostly on quiet country roads or roads with good shoulders. It is very similar to the area around Fulshear in terms of road types except slightly hillier as you go further north and west. If you want to get a good feel for the area, go out with the Northwest Cycling Club's Saturday AM ride. They welcome all visitors...no need to join the club, and there are anywhere from 50-150 folks that ride there every Saturday year round. They start at 8am in the winter, and go out in 22+, 20-22, 18-20, 16-18, 14-16, and no drop beginner groups. The 14-16 is pretty honest...maybe riding 16-18 at times, but is not "no-drop". The 16-18 group is called the liar's club and they usually average around 20-21 for the first 24 miles. Most of the groups will do either a 38 or 43 mile loop with a stop at 19 or 24 miles in. They are a fun bunch to ride with and it really is a nice area to ride.

I was going to ask you in the other thread after you mentioned it, but I didn't want to hijack. I knew you'd be the one to answer. That really answers most of my questions. Good job! I'll probably make the drive out there in a couple of weeks and ride with the other liars. It probably won't be a 'regular' place for me to ride but I'd like to see what it's all about. Fulshear area is just too close for me to drive out further.

Tat does sound good.
We we really need to get a bike forums meet up to ride in a mostly central location for all of us. I'd enjoy meeting y'all. |

Zube with NWCC is awesome. Groups, speeds, and personalities for everyone! Come out, have a blast, get 40 good miles in! Most of the groups go 40, though there is usually a 25 and sometimes a 50 or more. Eats and drinks at the end, free of charge. The no drop group is super accommodating, don't be scared if you haven't done many (or any, as was my case the first time) group riding before.

Lol be sure to wake up early enough for it! Name a location and lets make it happen. Next weekend is out for me though. Ill be riding in matagorda. Maybe we should start another thread.
We don't have to rush and figure something out right away - especially with the holidays coming up - I'll be out of town for the weekend of thanksgiving, and the weekends before and after christmas. plus, I'm more of a fair weather rider - I'm not going to get up early on a weekend AND be cold.

I drive there from the woodlands. Takes me almost an hour. Totally worth it.

lol. hey, there's no rule that says you have to set out at 7am! I'll always choose getting 1-2 more hours of sleep over trying to meet to ride before 8 or 9am. Hell when I ride on my own I sometimes don't leave my house until 11am or later!
|
totally understandable. i know most people ride early so they can do stuff the rest of the day. thought sometimes it makes it feel like taking a 50 mile jaunt is more of a chore or a task to be completed, instead of an enjoyable event for the day. but i know people can't always waste a day because of family or other obligations. but i think every once in a while it'd be ok to enjoy a ride a little later in the morning/early afternoon.
|
Yeah. Last week we didnt start until about 9am. It was actually quite nice.
|
Depending on where you are riding, the later you start, the more you have to deal with traffic. But it is nice when it gets cooler to not have to worry about getting roasted alive by the sun if you leave too late in the morning.
|
Thats something I wasn't thinking of. I usually ride my 50 in George bush and terry Hershey out and back. I'm not on the roads. So I understand wanting to beat the traffic.

Interesting Thread about Zube park. I never heard even name of this park in my whole life. It is a new for me. Al members shared massive information about it. I really like it and after getting huge information I can easily go there without any problem. This park looks interesting and surprising for me. Hope it will beautiful for me.

There are some good rides out of Zube. I ride with a 7:30 am Saturday group out of there. We usually do 50-55 and average 19.5 to 20.5 most of the time. There are about a million different routes out of there so it's always something different.

Thanks for giving information about Zube park. It is very far but after reading this thread I would like to go there at least one time.
|
are they still doing the regular Saturday thing? I live downtown Houston in the museum district so it would take me about an hour to get there but that is doable.
|
Yup. Rain or shine, every Saturday at zube. starts at 8:00 am during the winter, 7:30 after the time change if you are riding with NWCC.
