I've been twice. In 2007, I was living in CO, drove down to Dallas - rode to TXHW - did TXHW - cycled back to Dallas and then flew to Amsterdam to start longer tour the Texas parts are written up here: (Amsterdam to Vladivostok Texas). I also did it 2008 but didn't have a write up.

I like the trip and had previous experience with Nick & Becky in some of their other Hell Week series (Gator Hell week twice and done in different format; and Las Vegas Hell Week also different format). The TXHW series is good as a "hub and spoke" series and particularly if you're looking for others to ride with. Nick put together a map book with a sequence of different rides for each of the 8 days. There was an "A" ride, typically 100 miles plus but a few even longer, a "B" ride that was shorter - say 60-80 miles and a "C" ride of say 45-70 miles. Not too much structure other than that, other than a designated start time. You were free to start when you wanted (or do entire different ride or none at all - for that matter), but if you were looking to ride with others, then could leave at the common start and common routes. The routes themselves often interlocked - so I found many folks might do their own "A-" or "C+" variations by adding or leaving off particular segments.

Most of the audience was more road cyclists. I cycled down with my gear from DFW and I'm sure there might have been others cycling in from Austin or similar spots, but majority of people drove out to Fredericksburg for the week. I made a motel reservation a few months in advance and at that time, there were some motels that were not available - though I didn't have difficulty then finding one that wasn't. Otherwise Fredericksburg is normally a tourist town accustomed to visitors - so didn't really find other things that crowded. For example, one might go out to restaurant and spot other TXHW cyclists - but wasn't like there were huge lines everywhere because we overwhelmed the place.
