Gravel/Dirt roads around Houston

Hi everybody,

Does anyone know where one could find a network of dirt/gravel roads for riding near Houston? I built myself a single speed cyclocross bike and I need to find closer places to ride.

Some of the fire roads in the Sam Houston National forest are gravel. Look around Coldspring and Waverly. Not all of them are open to biking.

If you live down on the southeast side of town, there used to be lots of gravel roads down in the Pearland/Friendswood/Alvin area out in the oilfields. Not particularly scenic in all cases, but might be closest you will find without going out north or west of town.

being as you also have an MTB, you likely know all the park trails... and not much in the gravel road type riding in or near Houston...even the farm roads are paved...away from Houston some of the county roads are dirt/gravel...except when it rains, then they are mud.

You could connect up the Terry Hershey Anthills and George Bush Park levee tops for a decent ride.
