Flatbar grips on drops?

So I just ordered the Nitto Noodle handlebar, and just wondered if anybody have experimented with flatbar grips on a drop handlebar? So that you get like a standard handlebar feel on the straight part.

I have a pair of oury grips laying around, that dampens vibration very nicely, that I think I'm going to try this with.

Back in the day there was the Off The Front Grip Shape , I got several sets in 89 ~90 and used them under the tape..

they're out of business Now, By From the looks of them you can make your own..

Get a U shaped Wood Gouge to gouge out a depression in a 2by 4 clamped in a vise

wax it as a Mold release , then Pour in Plastidip . the tool handle stuff, and let it Cure

pop out that one and do it again.

I liked the broad flattish shape ,, of the finished project.

My roadie bike got A Fizik Gel Pad and tape job over the winter.. they're still Round..

most flatbar grips are designed with an inside diameter appropriate for MTB bar's accessory/brake caliper clamping diameter. if i wanted grips on the larger diameter flat part of a road type drop handlebar i would look at grips for track bikes. OTOH, i would probably try, as mentioned, any MTB grips i had to see if they would work before investing in something else. you never know.

Let me grab my Plastidip, vise, and release wax and we'll reinvent the wheel, too. ;)

Fizik makes bar gel to put under bar tape. More bar tape works, too.

If there's a handlebar configuration, chances are somebody has tried it. I often slide from the straight end of my drops up the "curve" to the brake, many times throughout my rides. A grip would work if you kept one position directly on the straight end, but, do you?

I've been told my h-bar tape looks lumpy and ugly. I haven't worried much about cosmetics as the function and comfort works for me just perfect.
I did have a fixie that I used with drop bars and knobby tires years ago. The drop part had MTB grips and the top bar part had a set of flat bar mtb grips as well that overlapped the area where there would normally be hoods. I found myself rarely using the drop part but I had no problems fitting the grips on.

That seems to be too much work, especially when you live in an apartment. But if you do it, be sure to post some pic´s.

Gel under the bar tape dose not do much difference for me. I was mostly curious if any body had done some thing like that and hade any photo´s of it.

When I re-taped my trekking bars I laid in some extra bar tape in line with the bar and wrapped the bar tape over it. I seems to add a bit more cushion.
