It's Here aka Co-Motion in Motion

This is the frame (sans fork that hadn't been saved yet) after being frame saved. I am hoping in the very near future to bring it into the shop and put on the headset and front fork but I am not in a rush because I still need to get the wheels and cranks/BB. I will try and keep posting updates and soon you might see the other side of the Co-Motion Queen Family Truckster! (and understand the reference better)

I just had a frame/fork powder coated. How did you spray down the seat tube? I know you don't want this stuff coating near the top where the seatpost enters.

Also, how did you avoid the BB threads? Just stuff some paper towels in there before spraying and moving the frame every which direction?

I've seen videos, but these individuals plugged/stuffed the BB after the liquid ran out the BB over the threads.

The "Search" function can be a friend in times like this.

An Example

:)

Any frame saver can be removed with a gentle solvent like paint thinner. Stuff paper towels into the bottom of the seat tube, chain stays, and down tube at the BB. If the frame saver gets into the BB dampen a rag with paint thinner and wipe the threads. An old tooth brush is also helpful. Apply a light coat of grease to the area cleaned. I actually use my shotgun cleaning kit to clean the frame saver from the top end of the seat tube. I then use it again to apply a liberal coating of grease to the inside of the seat tube.

I've already came across that thread while searching this forum and other bike forums.

Thanks Doug. Great info.

Thanks! You actually mentioned the bike. While learning about frame saving is quite useful the point of this thread was a touch self serving for pure talk of "mah new baby".

Which model Co-Motion is it?

Co-Motion Cascadia which it looks like you don't have yet (you should get on that, tell Ethan you need a new bike ; )

Obviously I haven't even finished building it yet (let alone ride it) but staring at it and holding it in my hands it is going to be great!

Hah! Actually, the Cascadia is basically a renamed version of the old Nor'wester Tour, which is what I have (they used to make the Nor'wester Tour and a "faster" Nor'wester with carbon fork, etc). I've bought all my Co-Motion bikes used -- one of these days I will buy a new one :-) I don't even have all my Co-Motions listed in my signature. Right now between my wife and I we have five Co-Mo singles (two Pangeas, two older "OR" flat-bar bikes, a Nor'wester) and a Mocha tandem in the garage. I need to sell a few, as there is overlap, but I like them all and I can't figure out which to sell! They are nice bikes.

I didn't realize you had the tour version, I guess no huge need for the Cascadia. Though it is pretty sweet and they have enough colorways you might as well ; )

You have more than listed...Jeez. I hope one day to be at that point. Or better yet do what Yngwie Malmsteen does with guitars "yah this is rare '62 stratocaster that they only made 5 of, now I throw it on pile, this other one is cost 10,000 so now we throw it on pile" Dude literally has a pile of old high value guitars in his studio or at least did for his interview.

I think my wife summed it pretty well when I brought her frame home. She took it out of the box and said, " It is only a tool, but a darn pretty one". :) Enjoy you build.

Loverly! A quite pretty tool, if only all of them could be that pretty.

Thanks I will. I got the headset installed thursday and hopefully will purchase cranks and BB soon.

I know. What does this have to do with treating the frame?

fietsbob 05-16-15 10:09 AM

ever seen/used masking tape?

veganbikes 05-21-15 09:03 PM

Installed headset but need to get the funds together to get the wheels and cranks so I can build this sucker. Going to take the Trucker out for one last little tour probably on the C & O.

No photos this time but I will try and get something up soon when more has happened.

Quick update:

I just bought a set of Sugino Alpina2 cranks http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=455609 and am getting closer to getting all the parts bought and finally putting it together.

I was planning on using a Phil Wood stainless. You may not be able to see the red Phil logo but knowing it is there is all that matters ; ) On the serious note it is supposed to be a very durable and long lasting BB, made in the USA as well and that is why I am using it. Logos don't matter that much though theirs is a nice one!

Nice cranks. I got a Sugino recently too, just not that pretty.

XD600? That was my back up if I couldn't get the Alpina's or even better build a set of T.A. Specialties (nearly impossible to get unless you want to buy in bulk or do normal retail).

Sugino does make some nice stuff so I am pretty excited by these. Even the XDs aren't too bad.

Sugino Impel (not my bike/crankset):

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/dow....php?id=101745

But it's practically new since the seller didn't put many miles on the original chainrings and little wear on the crank arms.

As soon as I got 'em I disassembled, cleaned/detailed (little grime), polished, greased and reassembled.

antokelly 06-04-15 10:38 AM

Stronglight impact is nice and a super price from SPA cycles.paul canti brakes with coolstop pads are CLASS:thumb:looking at buying this frame in the near future well if all goes according to plan.
