Helping Bike Tourist in my area

Every once in a while I see someone riding through my area going east and west. To do so they would have to ride through Fort Worth and Dallas. The traffic is a night mare. I've been doing some research and found out that the TRE (commuter train) offers roll on service that allows bikers to get from Downtown Fort Worth to Downtown Dallas by train. This would reduce the trip across the metroplex by 30 miles.

That got me to thinking, As far as I know there aren't any maps or directions to get someone across from one side to the other.

So that brings me to my question. If I were to develop a map to get touring bikers across Fort Worth Dallas as painless as possible, Where could I post it for bikers to find it? Maybe I could work with the Adventure Cycling Association and help open up a route that crosses through N. Texas from West to East. There is some great biking east and west of DFW, but you don't see many touring bikers due to the difficulty of crossing the big city.

You might consider posting your map and directions on this site as it does get a lot of attention by touring cyclists seeking information from others before them.

Under Resources on CG, on RWGPS, the Touring section of Bikeforums.

That's an ambition project. Good luck.

Isn't there a bike path under development, or in the dreaming stage, to connect FW and Dallas, with a connector to the Northeast Texas Trail? Lord knows it's needed.

If you create it, I will (or you can) post it at biketouringtips.com, as well.

You might want look at the Northeast Texas Trail and connect into that.

If you get a route done and give me a gpx file I can post it on my site.

Went to downtown Fort Worth today and took my bike onto the TRE(train) to Dallas to see how it would be. It was easy. They have seats that sit sideways and has enough room to put your bike right in front of you so you can hold it. However one thing I found out is that Downtown Dallas is not what you would call Bike friendly. (unlike downtown Fort Worth which is great for bikes) I wouldn't have a clue how to get out of Downtown Dallas and head east.

Will a loaded touring bike fit into the space in front of the seat, and can you easily get a loaded bike onto the train, or do all the panniers need to be removed? Might be good info to include.

I'm sure your efforts will be appreciated. Good luck.

I've never used it but I've heard of a site called MapMyRide. Not sure if it's for touring or more localized/regional routes but it might worth checking out.
