My first unsupported tour

I went on my first unsupported tour this past weekend, it was a mini-tour. Okay, I now have been bitten by a bug called the touring bug. My thoughts are consumed about how soon I can get back out there. Mind you I bike commute to work and even that will not make the bug be satisfied. I had a fantastic time. Besides the great weather the riding was so much fun.

I did find out a few new tips and tricks that will be of use to me going forward. . I also learned which of my equipment I will use again and what equipment I need to acquire for better carrying of my gear.

Congrats. I too live in MA, north of Boston. I do tours starting from my house. Got all the Rubel bike maps or the Delorme map books? Try my Cape cod tour. Places to camp in Plymouth and Brewster, MA. Pedal to Provincetown and take the fast ferry back to Boston. Could do it in 3-5 days. Rail trails all over MA and NH. I tend to seek them out.

Leebo, I do not have any of Rubels or Delorme map books, someone else planned the route and did all the organizing. If you have any suggestions of bikes tours for the NH or western part of MA I am much more interested in those local places.

I do like the idea of starting from my house, but due to time limitations(working full time) I may have to take my car somewhere just to get a variety of places to go.

Just did a three-day myself this past weekend. On Friday I rode 2 miles to the train, took that a bit into NJ and rode 54 miles to a nice state forest. Saturday I did a day ride to a county park with a zoo then went to the coast for a bit and then back to camp. Sunday I rode to the coast again and then up to Atlantic City where I caught a train back to town.

Even when I cannot swing a week+ tour I still like to get away for a few days. It's a nice change of pace. Still hoping to get in another 3 or 4 day trip in before it gets too cold.

You are luckier than I, my trip was a weekend trip. Though still very fun. And like you I hope to get another one in before the colder weather comes this way.
