Accessory stems and you
Hey I want to thank fietsbob for the advice on mounting a second stem for bags/accessories. I would do this directly but my post count isn't high enough yet. I just cut down an old set of drop bars to a 5 inch rod and it now serves as my handle bar bag mount and allows me to mount a headlight from the bars without it being obscured by the bag. I would have never though to do that myself and I'm surprised it's not taken directly from a Sheldon Brown page. I'll post a picture later, the gf is out with the camera.

Sheldon Brown's Thorn Raven Bicycle Earlier examples used to attach bags, etc. The Bicycle Technologist*: A Double Stem (by Michel Gagnon) Double Stem Accessory Bar - Sydney Cyclist An unusual approach (see 3rd image): https://janheine.wordpress.com/2011/...minum-fenders/ Thorn cycles even makes this accessory bar for sale: Search Results |
I also highly recommend the Daija Cycleworks accessory stem mount. It isn't really designed for weight but great for lights and computers and smaller or less weighty stuff. It takes up no extra space on your bars or stem and just mounts instead of two of your threadless stem bolts.

I consider the lower center of gravity to be the biggest advantage, not clearance for a light.

UK SJS Cycles makes a clamp and T of 7/8" aluminum tube with only 1 bolt, gripping the steerer tube,
and so needs only 27mm of steerer tube length .. (less than an actual threadless stem) Accessory Fitting Brackets products from SJS Cycles |
